When doing some first test renders with Vray I noticed the noise on the shadows cast by area lights. The only thing that seemed to get rid of this was to scale the light down in size (and then increase intensity to compensate for this).

I never used the Link Editor for anything until I spoke with a few experts in the beta forum who suggested changing a setting on the area light within the LE.

I've included some test images as well as a screencap of the of the Area Light dialog in LE.

Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be a noticeable difference in render speeds (I'm sure there's a difference - but like I say...not noticeable to me).

I'm attaching an image to explain how this is done. (Thanks to the guys in the beta forum for telling me about this!)

Hope it helps!

P.S. In the post above I mention that there's not a noticeable difference in render speed. Well, it appears that in higher resolution (polycount) models (see character in image), it seems to make an exponential difference. The above tests were done with simple cubes and the shadows were calculated quickly no matter what I had AreaSamples set to.

P.S.S. Be sure to check the AreaSamples value before EACH render. It constantly changes itself back to default.
