Seems Like a stupid question, I know:rolleyes: but which is the easiest and fastest way to create a chicken wire mesh in true space. It is just for a project I am doing. Being a bit of a perfectionist to be honest.
But getting a bit of £ to do it so I had better make a good job:D |

If its going to be a closeup on the chicken wire, you probably want to make your own 'wire', however if it just in the background you could probably get away with cutting bits out of a cuboid (a very thin one) |

Hemulin, What would be the easiest method for creating my own wire if it was going to be a close up shot:) |

Basically, (this doesnt work in practice but the idea is there), he create a nurbs curve and you save that as an object, then you create a cylinder (or whatever shape you want your wire to be), and then I think you use the lathe tool to get the cylinder to follow the wire all the way round. Making your own 3d wire |

Oh, you want an answer now?
Right then, for distance use a texture map with alpha transparencies-there is one in the Metals2 library called Hex mesh. Try it.
For closeup work you need to look at how chainlink fencing goes together then try and recreate the main element and then repeat it ad infinum.
You need to draw a curve (the path the wire takes) then save it to your curve library.
Next, draw a circle which will be the profile of the wire. Now click on macro/sweep tool (near sweep) click on your curve in the library, R-Click on macro/sweep and make sure bend is enabled.
Now click on Macro/sweep once more to sweep.
Just finishing a bit of artwork for this month's gallery (a patriotic effort) then I will try and post an example....:D
I really should be doing some school work..........like you :( |

... then save it to your curve library...
Curve library:confused: Do you mean object library.

Actually we are both wrong-I meant paths library-it is there but I cannot remember where in TS6. I am having a bit of trouble getting the BEND function working properly in TS7 using Macro/Sweep. Any TS7 users able to get the BEND option to work properly?
In principle my theory works but without BEND it looks rubbish; |

Macro/Sweep tool is with sweep tool in model toolbar. Give it a try for us would you? Dont use the paths in the library though-draw your own. Cheers. |

I don't mean I actually made some chicken wire, I mean I got the macro sweep to work, you're the one thats meant to be doing the chicken wire. BTW, the bend tool works fine in ts6.6, must just be 7 that has problems splinters. |
