Hi all,

Just in case anyone missed it, wanted to let you all know that we released our first trueSpace7 course - "Getting Started with trueSpace7" - at the end of last week.

The course is designed to introduce you to some of the new features in trueSpace7, such as the customisable interface, the Player, real-time rendering (settings, shaders, post-process, etc), using the Link Editor, editing objects and creating panels for them, and more.

The course page itself is here:

http://www.caligari.com/Products/trueSpace/tS5/Courses/GettingStarted_tS7.asp

There is also a free chapter (https://forms.caligari.com/eBuy2/download/checkExpired.asp?URL=http://cart1.caligari.com/ebuy2/download/files/proTeam/proTeamGettingStatedWtS7/01A_QuickTour.html) to watch, just click on the link!

EDIT- forgot to mention the free chapter is a streaming Flash format movie. It may prompt you to install Flash if you don't have that installed presently.

Thanks!

Tom

Tom, your free chapter clicky takes you to a page that asks for a username and password to log into.

So it does.

Use this free chapter (http://64.34.176.58/download/ts7/freechapter/01A_QuickTour/01A_QuickTour.html) link instead, where I've got the right link pasted this time :)

Sorry about that.

Thanks!

Tom

That's nice, didn't learn much though.

I like the tabs across the top, reminds me of Visual Express C#.

Hi James,

No, not much to learn in the free chapter, it's an overview only :) The other chapters are very much more detailed, but as such will not give a good view of what the course covers, or show much of tS7 to non-tS7 owners. The chapters are useful, but they often just show a single thing, eg editing a panel in the LE - this is not only very specific, it's also not visually dramatic :) It also doesn't mean so much if you can't follow it in tS7, so again would be of less interest to non-users.

Hence the choice of free chapter here, to be of some interest to tS7 owners and non-tS7 owners alike.

What I'd benefit from most is a static non-flash (maybe PDF) version of that, so I can read it and refer to it rather than having to sit through a movie.

I agree - I think they ought to make PDF versions of all the courses [including existing ones].

Well, after studying Animation Master the past two weeks I'm incline to switch over to that software program.

Here's my reasons.

- First, and most important to me is that I want tools do to the work and not me have to work and work to try and get tools to work with unclear procedures.

- Secondly, tutorials are scattered from here to kingdom come.

Note: I know it's common in this industry to charge extra for the knowledge of essential elements to complete a task. But it doesn't mean I have to agree with it.

- Unexplainable crashes when I do something that is the least bit complicated, like having 3-4 objects on the screen.

- Annoying bugs like the one I just had where my last three saves of scenes and objects were not anywhere to be found because of a crash.

- I thought the interface might be simpler, but actually I get more done in Blender and done faster because it's a recognizable path, not an odd looking graphic on an icon.

- The basic tenents of Windows software seem to be abandoned in this software. Like, where are the drag and drop, why do I have to know when my screen is in a certain mode (world, screen, object) before I can do another function; where is the intuitive flow? What ever happened to the philosophy of WYSIWYG? Why must I click on several widgets or icons just to get something to move or rotate? No one likes mouse programming?

- A help menu system that talks about items with no graphics. It's comparable to an auto mechanics manual written purely in text with no graphic to describe what button does what when and how and where the heck it is at!

Note: I've seen some very nice tutorials on the web written for older versions of tS, that had arrows pointing to icons, icons highlighted; procedural steps outlined and illustrated. Writing a help contents is not just writing, it's illustrating as well.

- The best tutorial videos where done by non-Caligari people (I didnt' buy but one of the Caligari's produced Videos as I would have spent more on video tutorials than the program costs!)

- And I could go on, but I feel that a spent my money unwisely. Being as I downloaded tS,it's doubtful I'll get a refund.

Lastly, I just realized I put this in the wrong forum spot, so you may delete it if you wish. :)

Cya around, I need to find tools that I can use and be productive. I'm old and don't want to die after 10 years of use finding out where that confounded button or function is at.

Bye forum friends. :)

Lessons learned in life I suppose.

jamesmc- you took the words right from my mouth and I couldn't have said it better.

I've just asked for my money back and if I can't get it then I'm selling everything to the highest bidder (TS7, tutorals, Paks + more).

It really makes me mad that I have to spend more money for the tutoral for learning the interface.
