Has anyone else found the keyframe animation utility (just the really simple stuff) to be very, very slow? Every time I click on anything in the KFE window, my computer halts and takes several seconds to figure out what it is doing. Pretty sure this is not my computer, as it is a 3Ghz machine with a good video card, 1GB of RAM, etc. Only the play animation button really seems to work quickly as it is supposed to.


Is there any way this issue can be made to go away? Any fixes available?

I've had problems myself with the KFE response time.


Sometimes I'll have vertex-level animation (a Clothmotion sequence, for example) and the KFE takes a bit of time to load up.

The only time my computer really slows down while playing with the KFE is if there is alot of complex geometry. Even then, the delay is only a fraction of a second. My processor is 2.4Ghz.

Could there be another process running on your computer that is hogging your system's resources?

I would press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the Windows Task Manager. It has a tab that measures your processor usage, as well as a full list of the running processes on your computer and how much system resource they are taking up at any given moment. When minimized, the Task Manager will show a processor usage icon in the system tray next to your clock.

Truespace often pushes my processor to the 100% usage mark when I'm manipulating or animating objects, and then drops to 0% when I'm not doing anything.

Lastly, could you specify what kind of graphics card you have?

I hope your problem is resolved soon.

If you have tS6.6, try the scene "Wind jammer" in one of the scene libraries (physics).

The water object slows things down considerably. It is a nurbs object with some animation keyframes.

Import the water object into tS7, and see if there is any difference in response time.

I found the wind jammer scene and loaed it up and I can definitely see what you're talking about. The physics simulation button causes a smooth reaction, but attempting to use any part of the KFE really slows my system down as well.

Hi Everyone,


Sorry for not responding sooner.


To answer various questions, no, I'm sure it's not other processes on my computer - nothing's happening of any consequence in task manager, and TS and other apps respond fine when doing other things. Just the KFE has really slow response time, and only when scrubbing or clicking in the timeline, not when actually using the play button.


The graphics card is an ATI X700 Pro 25gMb. I'm gonna chalk this one up to a bug, I think, unless another solution presents itself.

Another question for anyone who has an answer - this isn't really about the KFE though....


Any idea on how to use TS7 with two monitors? Specifically, I just set up a 2nd monitor which works great, but I can't find a way to set up TS so that there are 2 model views available, one for each screen. Ideally, I'd like to have a 3d or camera view on one screen, along with some render tools, and my top, side, etc. views on the other monitor with my modelling tools. Seems like you can only have 1 model window and one player window, though, which taxes the graphics card way too hard and slows stuff down once I'm into heavy geometry. I usually like working with wireframes for the most part in any case.


Any thoughts?

Hey Nate,


You can have multiple Player views, not sure of the limit. For modeler you have one main view but can open up multiple other views (without the toolbars) such as prospective window, side, front, bottom etc.. using library toolbar of modeler to the left in default layout. :icon_NewLeftView: :icon_NewFrontView: :icon_ViewRight: :icon_ViewLeft: (couldn't fine the Prospective button)

You never answered one crucial question regarding the slowdown you see in the SE (we haven't had a KFE for about 4 years now) - is the bridge setting off and if it isn't, what happens if you turn the bridge off?


Also, you can only have one main Model view as Noko pointed out.

If you haven't had a KFE for four years now, then you might want to change the tooltip on the SE icon to something besides "Open KFE."
