Here's a simple Clothmotion simulation done in trueSpace 6.6 and rendered from trueSpace 7 w/ Vray caustics.

352x240 - MPEG2

http://www.frankladner.com/JelloCaustics.mpg

This was one of those for-the-fun-of-it renders but I think it shows that realistic water animation can be achieved with Vray caustics and water motion simulation (Dynawave in older versions of trueSpace, or else Clothmotion, which requires a bit of setting up for, say, swimming pool simulations.)

That's really cool. :) Makes me wish I could have afforded Vray.

Great work Frank. I watched the clip over and over. Does clothmotion load into TS7?

Thanks, guys!

mrbones: I cant see it Frank, What is the codec?

It's an MPEG2. I decided not to use DivX this time due to more people not having it.

mrbones: Nuthing rhymes with Orange.

Ha ha ha!

colfax: Does clothmotion load into TS7?

I haven't really tried a test of Clothmotion within tS7. I assumed there may be some problems so I went ahead and ran the simulation in tS6.6. That way I would get the vertex-level keyframes that I knew would load fine in tS7. However, the next one of these animations I do - I'll try to do the simulation and all in tS7. I'll let you know what happens.

Thanks Professor!

I hope to render a longer simulation soon. (Also you might have noticed that the bottom of the cube goes through the floor in that one.)

I can't view it either (I get the broken filmstrip icon); oh well, maybe next time...I'm sure it was great though.

Try saving it to disk instead, when I did this myself I found that it was trying to save it as JelloCaustics.mpg.mp3 removed the .mp3 and was able to save and watch it. Looks great BTW.

Sorry Keith!

I would suggest the same thing Daybe said (Thanks, Daybe!). Here at work I went to download it within my Opera browser and got the Quicktime "Q" logo and status line which eventually went to a broken filmstrip as you said. This is likely something going on with the Quicktime browser plugin.

After doing a Save Target As and opening the file from my desktop, it worked fine.

Yep, that did the trick. Very nice; it looks like sugar-free, color-free, taste-free Jello:) Is this new to TS7?

Keith: LOL! Thanks! For this one I held off on the color and sugar. Glad you were able to watch it.

KeithC: Is this new to TS7?

The caustics part (light reflection/refraction) of it is new to trueSpace 7 through the use of Vray. The soft-body simulation side of it can be done in other versions of trueSpace with Clothmotion.

I wish I could see these as well, only PowerDVD could at least get a few frames in but not sure what I am looking at. What are you folks using to see animations?

If PowerDVD's not any help, how about Movie Player Classic (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=82303&package_id=84358)? It's free, & quite good. You'll need to grab 7-Zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to uncompress it though. [but it's free too :) ]

Failing that, you could check out a DivX version of Frank's vid here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/video_for_caligari_forum/JelloCaustics.avi). I couldn't get it to come out as crisp as Frank's original, but at least you can see what he's talking about. [probably best to save it then watch it]

Thanks a bunch for converting it, Alien!

I think from now on I will try to export to either MOV or WMV.

You're welcome. :)

 Quicktime? eww, no thanks! Ok, so having Media Player Clasic with the Quicktime Alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm) codec installed allows me to view .mov files without having that dreaded software actually installed on my precious machine, but I still prefer to get other formats when possible.

Actually, in hindsight I should have given that link in my previous post, as MPC is bundled with QA, so you'd have had both.

I do recommend Windows Media Encoder 9, it is free plus you can download up to 2mb files here on the forums using *.wmv format where anyone can click and see if they have media player installed that is. I've found it to have higher quality then DivX 6.1 which I also like. Myself I don't like *.mov files not because of quality but because quicktime keeps trying to get me to upgrade. Anyways here is link for free Windows Media Encoder 9, which you can make HDTV resolution recordings if you want, that is if you don't have it already :) .

Thanks Alien and Frank, I like animation, more info on how to create :D.

The thing that bugged me the most was that I could never find how to view stuff fullscreen with it - with Media Player Classic I just double-click anywhere on the video portion of the window.

Last time I looked, even if you buy a Mac, you have to pay the quicktime upgrade to be able to watch video fullscreen. I would expect this to change soon if it hasn't already. It's funny how Apple helps pioneer new methods of distributing and consuming media, yet limits their primary video watching software.

But now back to that Jelly Cube! When are we gonna see more jiggle! I'm addicted to that subtle bounce and shake.... the play of the light... give us more.
