Since the box edition of tS7 has been delayed please go ahead and place a printed copy of the Developer's Guide in the box as well.

Cheers,

Excellent idea! I don't know how much chance we have of it happening, as it was never intended [AFAIK] to make a printed copy of it, & it would increase their costs a fair bit.

Hmmm.... maybe just for proTeam members... ;)

Well, I've been putting it off but with the boxed edition delayed I'm actually going to Kinkos to print off a copy of the Artist's Guide. A bit expensive but I prefer to read such things offline and my patience has worn out while waiting! You guys are making stuff that's just too good for me to ignore anymore and I want to catch up! :)

This will likely take a while too at 1000 pages (think I'm going to print 4 per page though if I can get away with reading it).

Now where did I leave those unburned CD-Roms?

By the way, if any of you were thinking about going to Kinkos to print the manual, forget it! Way too expensive!!!! Guess I could print it off at home with multiple pages per sheet but it still might require I buy an ink cartridge pretty much for that task alone.

Think I'm just going to wait for my boxed set after all.

Ok, well I printed the manual myself anyway... just in case anyone is wondering it's a beast!

4 sheets per page, single sided...

Color ink cartridge went from 100% to 50% full

B&W ink cartridge went from 50% to 20% full

Printed on HP multipurpose stock paper. A little over 250 pages. About an inch thick (remember this is 4 sheets per page)

Estimated cost of printing...

50% of $38 HP78 color cartridge = $19

30% of $30 HP45 b&w cartridge = $9

50% of $6 HP multipurpose paper package = $3

Binder to contain the beast = $2

Approx cost of impatience: $33

And that's just quarter scale!!!

Prof K.

P.S. Had I done this at Kinkos they would have been about $125 at the same quarter scale (at least if I understand their pricing right at 0.50 per page AND they would've required me to print them out in 20 page batches)

ProfessorKhaos I printed my manual out on a Samsung ML-2150 printer that does double side printing.

It took nearly two hours to print double sided.

It came out to 1018 pages.

It just fits into an Avery 670 page binder.

So far I have printed 12 pages of color, icons

and quick guide. As time goes on I will print more of the black and white pages to color where needed.

I'd probably want to put my pages into some document protectors, so I'd divide the manual into several binders (to account for the extra thickness from the protectors). I've got kids, and they...well, they act like kids:)

From the looks of Mitch's pic it looks like he's put his in document protectors, so you could get it all in 1 folder, unless you want to use the smaller/thinner folders.

Is the manual set up so it could be divided into different sections (allowing for multiple smaller binders)? You could have a modeling section, an animation section, etc.

Not exactly, it is divided up into chapters, so maybe you could do X number of chapters per folder or whatever.

By the way, in retrospect 4 pages per sheet is too small to make out the text easily, even with my relatively good eyes. Still, it's a good reference that doesn't use up screen space though.

I have moved my pages into a 4" 700 sheet WilsonJones binder so I could include all my past tip sheets and screen saves together. In this format it is a very "good read" even at 9 lbs!:D so it is a bit of "a library".

With this format you do not worry about marking up your pages and you can lay the binder out flat.

I'm not using TS7 enough right yet (work commitments) to be overly concerned about the manual, though I agree... I prefer a printed manual. I find it frustrating reading off a computer screen. When it comes I'll have my nose buried in it for a while, I'm sure. But I'll tell ya, you folks who've gone ahead and printed it are dedicated, I'll give you that. :) I use a laser printer and the cost of toner is frightening, so I'll just continue being patient and hope the enxt printing company Caligari goes to doesn't crash and burn too.
