Since I haven't posed in a while, so I have decided to try some thing simple, as my modeling skill are not that good and I also wanted to do all of the work on the workspace side, so I decided to model some rc plane. Most are mostly simple box shapes. The first ones I do will be quick and simple. Attached are some wip and I will use real time images. Didn't know that I could use yaf(a)ray material editor, but that helps me with setting my material and colors.

;)

Nice fahembree!

Those are just regular custom DX materials we made for the YafaRay exporter. It's thanks to Dele's hard work that they happened, I originally wasn't going to bother integrating it. :o Though I to admit to going a bit overboard with the shaders, so it can get really slow if you use large (2048x2048) size textures.

The Glossy shaders use Parva's Ashikhman-Shirly anistropic model shader modified to add the sheen/blend for the 2nd color. So special thanks goes to Parva for letting us use his code. :D

But there is a way, if we implemented the materials via plug-in, there is a mechanism for integrating a new material editor and render engine. I just haven't figured out how to do it yet and I wanted to keep the YafaRay export a script-based project so that more people can contribute. :o

Just had a little time and so I added a partial landing langing gear with some wheels.

I thought I had lost my work as I exited TS and had forget to do a save before exiting, but all my work there when I restarted TS. Apparently TS automatically saved the scene!

I don't know what happened but now when I try to apply SDS to the plane it is only applying the sds to a few faces at the top, and not the entire object. See attached images. What did I accidently do and how do I fix this. I thought there may be extra vertices but I don't see any?:o

Never mind, I figured it out, should have checked the pdf manual. Select the subdivided faces and use reset sds icon.

I was going to try and do all modeling on workspace side, but the only way to make the spring in the front landing gear was to use model side and the lathe tool.:)

Meant to add updated image with front gear and engine mount.

Now comes something a little harder to model, the engine. Have got the basic shape, just need to refine it some more.:) add motor mounts, carb, muffler & etc.

Following this with interest. Let me know if you need help when it come to the YafaRay render. :)

I think I have enough detail for the engine. Just need to add some engine bolts and maybe a fuel line. Not really all that good but ok for me.:)

Some time later on I might time to refine it some more. I know the front in not a perfect round shape.

Just an update with engine in plane with prop. Decided to make ehgine head red instead of purple. Still using the real time render as results are immediately viewable.

You're flying right along with this !!!
I like it...a model of a model :)
I had a couple of them when I was young, except they were controlled by string (not remote control like nowadays).

I think you've done a great job on the SDS for the engine. It'd be very instructive to see the wire cage without SDS for that. :)

Thanks, I need to brush up a little on yaf(a)ray before doing a rendering.

Attached is a wire frame, exploded view of objects. :)

Very nice work. That engine is quite impressive. It's nice to SDS being used on something mechanical for a change as usually it tends only to get used on more organic type models.

I really wasn't going to spend any time doing ray traced images, but instead just work with real time images, as I was more interested in trying to improve my modeling, intead of rendering, but since you mentioned yafaray I decided to side track a little, and refresh my knowledge. I couldn't figure out how to get a good texture for the body of the engine,

See attached yafaya render,

so I decided to try a create a render using Kerkythea. Kerkythea has a lot of predefined materails, and wanted to see if one of them would work. One of the predefined aluminum worked pretty close to what I wanted. It would be nice if someone could do some predefined materials for yafaray for people like me who don't really know how all of the settings work in yafaray. I didn't let the kerkthea rendering finsh as its only 35% complete in antialiasing after 1 hour and thtas why its fuzzy in some areas.:)

I decided to post a quick render made with latest version of yafaray and also comparative realtime render from workspace side. The setting in yafaray were set way below the defaults as I wanted the render done a couple of minutes. I think it seems to work great for me. Thanks for a excellent job to all the yafaray to TS team.

:)

Looking good Fahembree!

Gotta say that I'm rather pleased at how the DX preview compares with the render! :D

Can't wait to see more renders done! Don't forget to update to the new version of YafaRay. The YafaRay guys released an update to version r305 a few days ago. ;)
