The first motorcycle, produced by Gottlieb Daimler in 1885... there is arguements the first was Roper steam powered bike in 1867, the general consensus is Daimler's was an internal combustion engine therefore a true bike.. I must admit the thought of being sat with a high pressure boiler just below my bum doesn't inspire me with confidence! Falling off a bike with regular hot bits is quite enough.
I might do Roper's bike if I have time
Heres the progress so far, there is still a lot of work to do on the frame, thats just the general shape, move the rake angle and texture the frame and wheels |

That is a very nice model. A bone shaker for sure! But I take it you will give it tires or is this bike from the pre-Dunlop era?

I think is was just a bicycle frame with a gas engine shoe horned into it, so it just had horse and cart type wheels, It must of been pretty hairy to ride on inch wide steel  hence the stablizers i guess.. |

Here's the mapped version and some stuff added, ie foot rests, modified exhaust so it now doesn't look like a torus (which it was!) |

here's the progress so far.. the plan was a Victorian setting, but most of the Victorian locally has been messed up by modern stuff, cars everywhere etc, so the best up to now is a back alley dating back to the 1830's and the Darlington to Stockton railway
I'm noticing loads wrong with the bike, so it'll be getting some adjustments, and rotate the wheels n pulleys so the look like they've moved, seat's to low, engine scale and the metal rims on the wheels is to thin and a better backdrop
It was rendered in Kerky with MLT, and I left it running to long I think, it developed and ugly line where the wheel splits and some of the bump map on the wall looks strange, the vain of my life right now is the brass thing behind the seet can I hell get that to look right lol |

Actually, I like your backdrop, it's pretty nice althoug to my eye I'd say the scale is just slightly off, i.e. the bike should be bigger relative to the wall or the wall texture smaller...
The bike looks very clean compared to the setting of course, so I guess you need to decide whether you're going for a nice smart Victorian setting befitting an expensive new motor vehicle, or a worn and scruffy bike to suit a more typical setting...
There's still lots of good Victorian buildings around of course, but the scruffy look will be easier to find than the smarter:D
It's a great looking render - still using Kerky? |

I think I need a ride out to Richmond thats virtually un touched, Darlington looks fake Victorian, although some of the nicer buildings still stand, the street where the Northern Echo and library are still look fairly right, that was use in the Woman of Substance movie (not that I've watched it  ) plus the railway station, but there's to many cars/people and lacks steam trains lol.. there's still a lot of old terrace housing and country lanes, we had our car stolen last year so getting the perfect backdrop is quite hard.
Yes still using Kerky :) I love it but I spend way to much time messing about with setting, textures etc, if I was using TS this would of been in the bag weeks ago  |

any reason for a 10 spoke wheel design? |

any reason for a 10 spoke wheel design?
geezuz you made me panic there lol I thought I'd miss counted or something. all the pics have 10 spokes.. I can't understand why Daimlier used that type of bike design, Roper's steam powered bike 17 years earlier, looks more convention and a iron frame, future bikes just looked like regular peddle bikes for quite a long time
It actually has a bit in common with the Yamaha Deltabox frames from the late 80's.. |

Very nice!
the wood should be aged and gear on the wheel more metal. |

Look' great, nice model, ilumination, materials.
Just maybe, the wood pattern on the wheels must follow the circunference, or your wheels are going to crack, or a metal ring on the outside perhaps? |

Thanks Marcel, I've never seen the bottom one before, thats scary! talk about serious injury or death if you hit something, all those nasty sharp bits, my refrence picture was a musuem replica so the wood work was very light, I think the rep one was altered to run on modern fuel, so my model is a miss match of the top image and the restored one
It does have steel around the wheels but I made them too thin  but now the deadline is extended I'll fix all that, I rendered that image just incase the deadline wasn't extended knowing my luck I'd of messed up the model totally and ended up with nothing  |

Probably it gets nastier to hit something at 300 km/h, with a modern motorcycle...
What was the top speed of this one? |

Like Mr 3D said :)
BUT even at that speed it still hurts if you find the floor coming up fast!!
The steel rims are now fixed, engine moved, new belt, it now has the bearing mount on the other side, raised enlarged seat, glass fuel bowl, the strange thing behind the seat modified. and some little details, i just need to remap the wheels |

My guess would be 32 feet per sec squared as your undercarriage gets a little toasty...and your manhood begins to look like a naked mole rat... |

Great work nigec, very impressive. I also agree with Nez, about the backdrop - not quite scaled right but a very good fit none the less. |

Ahh yes, the first motorcycle...which was shortly followed by the first printing of this classic t-shirt. (http://www.foulmouthshirts.com/Biker-t-shirts/shirtpages/If-You-Can-Read-This-The-Bitch-Fell-Off-T-shirt-Biker-T-shirts.htm) |
