As 'host' I won't be putting anything I do on this challenge into the vote, but it seemed like a fun subject and I wanted to have a go too...:D
I've gone more for the 'nightmare' side than the potentially more surreal 'dreamscape' aspect though I should really try something more along those lines at some point. It's not much to look at yet - just a kid's bedroom in progress, supposed to be either moonlit or street-lamp lit, haven't decided yet. Obviously still some way to go with more furniture, accessories and textures/lighting to tweak, as well as the main focus... can't give it all away yet. Before you say it - yes, it is dark! It is supposed to be, it's night time...
Actually have been doing a second scene on a similar but less subtle theme in parallel on my other pc at home - when I remember to take some preview renders or scrren shots on that, I'll post them here too - that one's a bathroom...
Won't matter if I don't get finished for the deadline of course - but hope some of the rest of you will be able to move your entries along a little further yet :D |

Well, this wasn't really going the way I planned; my 'clever' intent was to have a collection of innocuous toys/objects etc casting a combined shadow on the wall that in itself was scary looking - e.g. toy planes hanging from lampshade, wind-chimes in the window, etc. Thought it was quite a neat idea - was going to do several renders progressing from night to dawn/sunrise so that lack of scariness was revealed, perhaps using an animated gif...
However, the overall effect was not really coming out the way I intended so I've decided to abandon that route for the moment... going to try a more conventional route so I can reuse the scene a little. |

So moving away from the shadow-play, decided to revert to a more conventional nightmare for the moment - waking up to find a massive spider looming over you :D
Still plenty to do - e.g. replacing the standard chair library object with a scratch built one, modelling the wardrobe, texture work (only some materials applied so far), etc. Won't be done before the deadline though... |

Not that it matters for the challenge - this is the alternate scene I started at home on a similar vein, part done... modelling doen in tS5, rendered in 7.6 modelside but unfinished (probably for evermore)... |

I think I'll try a different stall.
This one is definitely 'occupied'!
Could use a touch of tone mapping- still a tad too dark IMO. |

Wow stunning work
It didn't look to dark for me, but jpgs go darker online and also no two monitors are the same, I did a game once that only 50% of people could actually see  |

I like both scenes, now the bathroom scene makes me think of Doom3 bathroom scene which was kinda bloody up. So being somewhat more ghastly maybe appropriate ;). |
