I'm working from the Model side in tS 7.6. As many of you may know, ungluing an object in order to repaint on the Model side is a challenge within itself ! I hate when I accidentally run over my scene control widget and leave it covered to readjust or repaint an object part and then have to start all over again (with a worse scenario ;):)) !
In any case, considering Ken recently allowed some Model side use for now, I'm getting to a late start on this TMC....and as far as finishing in time....
"I Think I Can !"
....First, I separated the train to create a separate object. This reduced the file size and gave me better access for ungluing, repainting, and modeling extras. I'll then be able to insert the new train as a separate finished object. By the way, this is a great model Ken !

I then decided to remodify the smoke stack....I needed room to give little choo-choo his face !!!;):)

I also needed to create some circus animals for his haul....so I started on some giraffes...

fantastic idea and well worked out. I love the way you use the spheres to create the spots on the giraffes.
One comment: I would change the texturing of the basis of the engine. When you look at the render you can not see the distinction between the wheels and the base. It is a bit blur now and I think it is from too much reflection. Perhaps you could also give the wheels another color, after all it is a circus train!

Nicely done! I'm enjoying seeing all the different interpretations of the same model. It's a fun contest, and interesting to see how the exact same thing can look very different with just changes to texturing and lighting. Which I guess proves it isn't "just" texturing and lighting, it shows they are pretty fundamental, completely altering what the geometry does and conveys.
Thanks!

Use the Split Hierarchy :icon_SplitHierarchy button - auto unglue for the whole lump!
Hope that helps. |

Now that I have been given the new found powers to unglue at a click of my fingers, I made some changes for Georg (and me)... |

Of course, you don't need to unglue an object just to repaint it. Enter the hierarchy and you can then simply click on the particular object to highlight it and retexture it as desired. |

Now you tell him!
As inspired by TheWickedWitchOfTheWeb and spacekdet, I created a compilation of clips last night that proves there are times when... "I Guess I Didn't Know"...(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnLShLmLuxE&feature=channel_page);)
THANKS for everyone's input !!!:) |

I used the Caligari Material to map out the elephant's coat, the boxcar signs, the rocks, the flower centers (which you can't notice), railroad ties, and the smoke from the train. The rest are just painted objects with some variance in reflectance, shine, etc. I'm glad you liked it Ken....it was fun to do !:) |

well... start creating some objects for a scene in case you win!
EDIT:
If you look at the first post of my thread:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=94611&postcount=1
It shows how to use the link editor so you only paint one part of the model... :D |

I'm not comfortable modeling that way yet Ken. It seems slower to me to have to type in the variables for changes, rather than slide the bar on the Model side for a quick change in the texture variables. I don't like combing modeling between the bridges, and since I only use LightWorks, I only model on the 6.6 side. |
