For a test with lighting it seems to look ok:) but if it was going to go further a little more realism would need to be put in to the image.;)

Nice work though:D

Hay Chris,

Looks like an original Star Trek sound stage set; very surrealistic. Cool image!

This is a strong image, realism is not always the objective, I like its surreal feel.

No shadow from the orange light seems odd - it creates a visual incongruety that is certainly eye catching - the photographer in me says 'where is the shadow' but the surrealist says "shadow schmadow, wee don need no steenkin shadows".

An interesting work for sure

Right enough Paul, looks the the planet of some ancient machine with the standard god complex. It's only a bit of fun, but I'll tinker away. Don't seem to be finishing much at present, but I'm sure it's a momentary lull. Speaking of god complexes, Wizard (I jest of course), the shadows from the dim red star are washed out by the much brighter, closer, main sequence star. There's a method to everything I do you see.

Glad to see your keeping an interest Roman, I think it's the first time a Caligari team member has commented on my work. Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris - I know you're a man who likes to get his lights 'right' - I've seen some of your other work and there is always a commendable attention to accurate lighting.

I think what throws me somewhat is that I would expect to see some distinct shadows from the red starlight particularly in areas where the white stars light is shadowed. In the middle left fore ground there is a shadow cast by the lamp from the white star - I would anticipate a double shadow where the statue shades the red stars light.

The reason I am expecting to see this is because both stars appear to generate similar amounts of lens flare which would suggest similar amounts of light and therefore a degree of visible double shadows in areas not receiving direct light from either star. I hope I'm being clear here and I certainly hope I'm not being picky.

Unlike Arther Dent I've not spent any time on planets with two suns so I could be way off track here

None of this detracts from the fact that this is a damn fine picture!!

Oh yeah - I used to have a God complex but I out grew it ;)

Added a few things, played around with the contrast etc. Also added ray traced shadow from the red star for a test.

Looking great Chris - Now that I can see the shadows from the red star I think I see why you left them out originally - it makes the scene look a little busy perhaps.

I would be tempted to turn the shadows from the red star down - so they are a little more subtle.

I also liked the uncluttered look of your first image - the moon looks like it's lit from a different light source to everything else.

Have you thought about using infinite lights oriented so the light looks like it's coming from stars / suns that are a great distance away? This could add a greater sense of scale and would light the moon more realistically - Just a suggestion.

You should keep working this image though - it's looking great so far.
