Maybe posting a WIP and having you all standing over me with a club will make me finish this.

Yes, after a pretty long hiatus I'm back with some drive to do something 3D other than candlesticks and post processing.

This guy (http://www.ema-designs.com/Ridley_concept.jpg) was the coolest and most evil game boss to ever get my ten year old self stuck on one level, I've always loved the flare this guy seems to have in the 3D versions of Metroid when you fight him (Maybe that's why he just keeps coming back?).

But because Nintendo has a habit of recycling and re-using things in their games, if you've completed all of the metroid games, you would have killed this guy no less that 5 times, and he keeps coming back with modoifications so whichever version of this guy I make will most likely be innaccurate

Hail mary tactics again I think

Here's what I have so far, I'm not really satisfied with this guy.

Thoughts?

At first I thought you were doing it with NURBS, then I noticed the SDS panel.

You might be better off using NURBS for this kind of a model, simply because making sharply rounded corners and such isn't so difficult.

Good start though.

I love the way your contour your feet there, but maybe what disturbs you about them is that connection in the middle. If it is solid, then no connection is needed, but if it is hinged, then it is out of proportion. It also does not appear to have a visible "connector" between the back of the claw and the front.

Despite that, it is a VERY good start, and with texturing, you could properly integrate the pieces so that they look correct to your eyes.

@Robert: Thanks for the idea Robert, but NURBs is something I haven't ever touched, something's off jointing about dealing with something thats 2D, but is actually 3D by the power of maths.

Maybe I'll try that for the head though, thats going to be something chrnoic to try and do

@Kena: You know, I do believe you're right actually, thanks. As for that connector, sometimes this guy has appeared as the boss "MetaRidley" which is a more boinic and mechanical version, overall the results will probably be better if I do that simply because I deal better with mechanical, theres a bucket load of artistic liscence to be had and would also put a gigantic spin on things.

In short it was part intended and part because that concept drawing shows it visible.

On with the leg I think, thanks guys

No update really worth shouting about this time, at least there would have been one, but Truespace has decided to pack it in again like last time. I should really find out whats wrong with it

Big shout out to Nez for rescueing my scene. Again. As it turns out it was a dodgy left leg causing the problem

Sorry for not getting more screenies as I was making it, things sort of just....happened, heres what I now have

I've got to sort out his back (which is why its hidden so much), add more detail/panelling on the hump on his body where the wings stick out, and on his front two chest plates.

I also want to add more in the way of half cybernetic things on his feet and left leg. It's just alittle bare at the moment, but probably won't really stand out until I put on the textures.

And then textures themselves. I'm actually looking forward to that part

An interesting link for your thread. :)

It is a 3d artist from russia.

Lot of really good illustrations of creatures. Some make me think about what you made.

I hope that can help you.

Never played Metroid so I can't say I'm familiar with the model. Looks fantastic though and, to me anyhow, it's got a kind of Armoured Core look about it. Which is a good thing I hasten to add. :D

First off, Marcel, that guy is amazing! (though I see he does the same trick as me, lots of round objects parked together, gave me a few more ideas too)

Second, to Breech. Keep armoured core in mind, you might get a suprise later on ;)

And the model is now done. Added wings, hands, head and more detail to the body, and made the tail longer.

As for that object inside his mouth, thats a more technological based explanation as to why he can shoot fire out his mouth.

this be a shoutout to Madmouse and W!zard.
Madmouse...textures, any ideas?
W!zard...how can I rig the wings proerly, I remember you did that dragon back in 08

Enjoy
