when I was young (29 years ago !!! ) I had a robot. In these times of crisis I think I have more time to find this moment of madness (I have less work but it does not worry). I would like to create a surrealist machine with the hand of the robot. Here is the skeleton of the hand recreated with TS.

I do not yet have a clear idea of what I do. But it does not matter. I hope to show more soon...

My question is "what can i do with a surrealist hand machine?"

Have your robot eating dinner. that would be surrealistic. Give him a western hat and have him eat using chop-sticks.

A famous saying is

East is East

and West is West

And ne'er the twain shall meet.

So that may just add the right element. :D

I would have him designing a human arm on a computer.

It was better than that. He made an arm in 1998. This picture dates from 1998.

Hi

A brief history:

I was born surrounded by robots. when I was little I had powers (in my head). Then I did all sorts of robots.

A few years ago, the robot appears again in a long cg movie with the head of an alien (i had no work this years and time to do that).

http://crea-vision.fr/html/animations/s-personnages.htm

you can see a small piece of this film.

http://www.caligari.com/gallery/animations/2005/jan/default.asp

and in the compil from Mr.3d in his new thread (i like the music, the rythm has the same speed as walking robot).

I do not know yet what he will become....... the transformation begin.

Hmmmm a robot with three arms and hands on each side could be useful for the following scenarios.;)
A robotic apple picker in an orchard.
A robotic shopper in a Store having a Sale, grab, grab ,grab...
A factory that makes gloves.
Used for quick 5 minute haircuts at the Barber.
A new improved Benihana Restaurant chef.

And play 3 concerts together with a piano! :D

Make a realistic and serious illustration with humor can be a surreal idea.

Fantastic detail. A three armed robot could feed both of my twins as well as cook dinner for me at the same time

If you think about it, a robot with enough arms could really speed up the process of milking cows......

Fantastic work Marcel, the attention to detail is quite amazing. Can't wait for a final render on this one.

Thank. Shoulder has 3 axes of rotation. I made a little animation to test this new element.

I don't know what i can do with ( a machine for climbing trees and picking fruits, an insect with a lot of human arms, .....) :)

Okay...Here's my contribution !...
a) A wooden platform with the mechanical hand attached and acting as a crane for the Egyptians to build the pyramids ?

b) A mechanical car (vehicle) inhabited with people that is climbing up a steep cliff ?
:)

You could have it painting a surrealist picture: one hand holds painter's pallet, second a brush and the third holds thumb up like painters do to get scale or such. The painting could be some sort of circuit board or technological cad type drawing :)

I like Mr. 3d's Egyptian crane and KenA's dinner.

Surrealism is about connections or meanings without rationality, the subconscious dream like meanings and patterns of things. It is not dadaism which is about being absurd.

Rayman's robots building themselves ... two things come to my mind from that. Neither is directly surreal but, with some other elements, could be.
- Factory of robot arms builds robot arms and factory parts on a long linear assembly line. In the foreground the arms can be seen assembling more of the factory and assembly line. In the background the factory extends to infinity. Possibly include a line of children, romantic youths, families with children as if they too are such a factory.
- Variation of the above: A circular factory where one set of robot arms assemble robot arms which are dissembled by another set of robot arms. The output of each is the input of the other.

A robot arm pets a live cat (not a robot cat). The cat has metal snake fangs and has bitten a fruit or vegetable.

A robot hand holds a biological eye and observes a surreal landscape.

Robot arms extend up out of water and support swans in their open hands. Instead of water maybe use something that should be solid but appears as liquid. Similar to the melted watches of Dali fame.

Robot arms fold fire into origami.

A robot arm stirs lava as if it was soup. An opened can labeled "robot food" or "lava soup" is present. The lava soup is in a pot made of flower petals which is melting as if metal. The robot could stir the soup with its finger or some surreal object.

Robot arms attempt to assemble something unidentifiable from parts so rusted that they just crumble. An audience of chairs with human arms applauds each failure.

Robots handle eggs but break them. The contents of the eggs are eyes ... the yolk is the iris, blood vessels are shown in the egg white. The egg-eyes flow like, or have the shape of, egg contents.

Robot arms hand eggs to human arms that break them.

Thank you for your comments (even if my poor English does not understand all). we have used to see a man with 2 arms. Duplication disrupts comprehension. This reminds me of a community of insects where the individual is part of a set.

Or for the use of dual multitouch screen with windows 7 and Truespace 8 "Microsoft surface edition" ! ;)

Finally duplication in this way is interesting and I had the joint that connects the arm. It looks like a skeleton around a spine.

Hm..... you could connect a set of 3 arms on each side by a bar in the middle... then have the "spine" end in a head. Then as suggested by Finis, have one set assemble a part and the other disassemble it.

I like the look of your robot hands btw... :D

Thank. The spine can be horizontal or vertical.

It is possible that the spine did not end. A machine without end. Why not?

I just get these ideas and have to do something with them.

It is actually possible to make a Mobius strip or Mobius Cylinder.

Here is a picture of it, followed by the object.

Anyone may feel free to use them if they like.

why not ? because your going to get problems with your polygon count,.

The spine that i made here as a test with the spline array tool has 200000

polygons ... if you ad the arms your going to have more polys then

you can handle in the software.so you must blend it out somewhere or use

shallow depth of field or something to fake it. you need a few polygons to make the rest of your scene too...

I am not afraid about this, i can use a trick ;)

In my last movie there were more than 10,000 robots and the cam passes through.
