HI, On this tutorial i want to show how you can create a watch with details and quality.

This first part contains how you can create the hands and how put the numbers on the right place..

Hope you like :D

Part One " How to Create the Hands and Numbers on a Watch"
Skill Level = Medium

First we will need to create the body of the watch.
To do this we must create a cylinder and then move the cylinder to the center of the scene.
Open the Object Panel and next to "Location" we need to enter X=0 and Y=0

*(Of course the cylinder must be over the table ;) )

Now lets make the hands of the clock.

To make the hands we need to copy the original cylinder and reduce it's size proportionally.

4452

(0.15 for the X and 0.15 to the Y Axis. For example)

Be sure to move the new cylinder over the clock.

Now using the Top and Side View, we are going to model the first hand.

Using the Polyline tool you can create with just a few clicks the hands with quality and speed.

Next press the Sweep tool to extrude up to create a polygon.

4453

Using the side view adjust the height of the hand to make it the proper size.

Now you can join both objects using the object Union Tool.

You have created the first hand of the clock!

*At this point we need to move the rotation center of the object (the first hand) to the center of the clock.

Select the Watch Hand and press “Move Axis to the Center of the Object” tool.

In Object Info we are going to change the location to X = 0 and Y = 0

4456

Now if you pick the object and try to rotate it the rotational center will be the center of the watch.

To make the second hand we need to copy the first hand then modify their faces and vertices to make more diferent than the first one.

*Right click on the new copy to modify.

Now we have 2 hands and the face of the watch.

Lets start to add a few numbers.

This part is a little complicated to explain and that's why I'll show it on a video too.

(The easy way and If you want, you can move the numbers by hand to the right place )

To watch the video you must click here!! "4457"

For this part we need to use the Horizontal Text tool to create the numbers or letters.

Now, move the axes to the center of any number to know the center is in the right position.

We are able to move the number to the 12 O'clock position. The X location must always be X:=0 to be centered and the Y value can be changed freely. It will depend on the watch style.

We have the number on the right place but at the wrong position. We need to move to the 1 O'clock position.

For that move the axes from the center of the object to the center of the watch. X=0 Y=0.

We are now able to rotate the number to the proper location. The easy way is adding 30 to the Z rotation. For example 180+30 moves number to 1 O'clock position, 2 O'clock position is 180+30+30 or more easily 180+60. That will work for any position on the clock.

The problem now is the numbers are rotated, and to fix that you must move again the axes to the center of the object, and enter Z=180 on the rotation.

We now have nice numbers in the right places, but if you look in perspective view the letters are all on the ground Z=0 but our watch height is higher than Z=0

To move all the letters we must first know the Z value before we can move the letters to the top of the watch.

HOW?? Easy, right click over the clock and select the top face and look the Z location on the object info.

4458

In my case it is 0.511

We are going to move each number to the right Z position and in my case Location Z=0.511

Now we have the numbers in the right place.

We are now going to add some volume to the numbers by pressing the Bevel tool.

If the bevel is not right you can change the value by pressing the right adjustment button. ;)

4461

Now you know how to add letters and numbers on a watch with quality in the right place and position....

Here is the Scene in Ts7 compatible with version 6 too and TS4.3 format to play and practice with using the same scene as I showed.
