Steinie ! Try a Area light and scale it larger than youre scene is.

Don´t forget to add a environment Picture for mirroring on the objects if you have chrome or glass in the scene.

Well, there's a couple I'd like to see, bearing in mind I'm only using TS5...

I'd like to see how to 'fake' GI seeing as I don't have that (can you achieve a faked result with multiple infinite lights at low intensity? If so, how many, which way should they point, etc)

I would also like a simple demonstration of 'product' lighting (e.g. Prodigy's watch or a similar situation where you're lighting a specific item for show - preferably something shiny, but without using Vray, GI or HRDI.... there's been the odd mention of positioning white (or other colour) 'refelector' objects, etc but I'd like to see someone demonstrate. I realise there's probably general lighting tutorials to be found on the internet, but I'd like to see something TS specific.

Will probably think up some other requests in due course....

I have a request for Norm or the powers that be...

Could we get this thread put up above the new users thread???

I think they will, then see it. It will give it life and keep the newer users from asking questions everywhere.

Also...how about a sticky with a list of the contributed tutorials(accompanied by thread links) at the top...

I guess these are also suggestions...I'm planning on doing more tutorials and tricks.

Was wondering if you had a tutorial about how to creat say a swining ball to interat with some blocks and knock them down at all.. i know in truespace 7.51 it comes with "tutorials" but it only shows you what you can do not how to do them.

Ok, this sureley sounds very, very basic. But... I'd like to have a tutorial on building a car on the workspace side. I don't know if any exists already (my apologies, if so).

Thanks a lot!

Hi Michael are you looking high poly, low poly, SDS? Lot of different ways to approach it. ;)

Hi Jack, thanks for the reply! I'm looking for a high poly model using blueprints as a template to rebuild a 'real world' car.

Thanks again,

Michael

Modeling a car is far from basic :) It is actually pretty advanced and will require a lot of advanced skills in terms of modeling and texturing.

HTH!

Hmm... you may want to look at some SDS tutorials done in Maya. They should translate fairly well into TS and there's at least one good one that I'm aware of floating around on the web. Hopefully someone can fish up the link for you. Also Digital Tutors stuff is very good. So that could be worth looking into as well.

Basically you need to get photos and blue prints of the car that you want to model, set up your template planes, then box model the basic shape. Cut your basic model into the panel sections for the car. Then continue to work in the detail until you feel it's done. That's the theory anyway. Never really gotten around to putting it into practice, lol.

Now come on guys, don't laugh at me  :D

I just want to have some tips from you experts out there which tools I should use (and how to use) to build a car on the workspace side (no texturing, no lighting at the moment ;) ).

And oh, thanks for that link!

Hi Michael,

I was'nt Laughing at you and I'm sure Jack was'nt either its just that pretty much every car tutorial uses the same methods and tools available in most model packages.

TS as it stands has two sides a "Model" side and a "Workspace" side so it may not be possible to complete a car in the "Workspace" side without going over to the "Model" side for tools etc that are not present in the "Workspace" side.

If I were modeling a car in the "Model" side I would start off with a cube in front of a background drawing and extrude from it and add edges then point edit to line up the points etc with the drawing. The same can be done in the "Workspace" side but it has some different tools that are not present natively in the "Model" side such as edge extrusion (sweeping), so if you like to make your car panel by panel then the "Workspace" side should be ok.

You dont say if you are a complete beginner or whether you have previous experience of modeling, can you prepare blueprints and set them up for modeling or do you want to know all the processes?

If you choose a blueprint I dont mind working through some of the procedure with you,its worth mentioning that the editing tools do not present themselves on a rmb over a mesh as they do in the "Model" side (I really dont know why though), so I would recommend Nowherebrain's "Interface Setup" tutorial as it describes how to setup a palette of editing tools which will make modeling in the "Workspace" side easier.

Hi Jim,

I know that you weren't laughing at me, look at the smilies in my reply. ;)

I'm totally new to the workspace side and I dont' want to use the model side if possible. What I found is, that I can use the organic course jack did (veeery good) and adapt it for the car I want to make. Thanks for the helpful link!

Thanks again,

Michael
