Hey guys,

I started putting together a scripting reference today in HTML. I figure I'll add to it as I figure things out. I've already added a few descriptions. I thought this would be a good community project if you guys are interested. I think there are enough scripters around here now. Perhaps if we pool our brain power together we can map out common script snippets and create a scripting reference guide.

I know Norm brought up this idea a while back but it kind of faded off. I think there have been other attempts too. I figured I'd just throw this out here and see what happens. Hopefully we can get something together. I think it would benefit us all.

So I'm attaching the HTML files. I have a few categories laid out with several script snippets. The ones with an asterisks are the ones that still need to be defined. I filled in a few that I'm familiar with. With each snippet you can give a description and at least one example. If you notice any mistakes go ahead and correct them.

I think the best way to do this is to post when you are going to make changes. Then the rest of us can wait for you to upload your results. That way we keep adding to it in an orderly fashion.

When you've added a description and example under a snippet, remove the asterisks at the beginning of the link to it. Then we can keep track of what still needs to be done.

If you have other categories to add, go ahead and add them in and create the pages for it. You can see that I created a main page for each category that has several links to the actual code snippet pages which are in separate folders.

Hopefully most of you have some kind of HTML editor and this is easy enough to add too. If you have trouble go ahead and post descriptions and examples in posts here, and hopefully someone with an HTML editor can add it in. I'll try to do that when I can too.

HTML doc would be good.

Having a listing of all the methods under each CreateDO object is not enough. In many cases the methods simply specify 'var' as the type of arguments supplied or returned. That's not really sufficient to understand what kinds of 'var' should be passed.

Even after doing a lot of mesh related work I still feel like I only have half the knowledge needed for certain ambitious projects. Given that's where a lot of complexities occur, it would be useful to have a "Mesh" section the same way you have a "Matrix" section.

Thanks Emma. Do you have that in another format? I can't open the file.

If you have any ideas as to how to organize anything better, let me know. Or feel free to go ahead and make changes yourself. :)

Thanks PK. :)

It is really a good idea

Could it not be easier if Caligari would start a wiki on their

server. It would be easier to handle with more and more information because

wiki has already a database. It is easier to edit, has it's own search function

could handle pictures and so on..

Sorry, I use OpenOffice instead of Word/Excel especially since I can write PDF with it. Converted at work to Word format.

It is just a listing, that is correct, but these can be used as headlines for chapters or paragraphs over time if this project goes on.

Indeed good samples of code for such var's is more than necessary as that is the difference between a reference manual and a practical

and for all usable coders-Artist Guide. That was the reason I started with that list

That would be a lot easier and would be great if Caligari could do something like that. Until then, something is better the nothing. If anyone knows how to create something like that though, I'll certainly help where I can.

My question is: Does Caligari want?

(sorry, seems my english sounds a little weird)

I said to myselfe, that I stop doing any kind of spripting in TS until

I have the right documentation. Because I need so much time to

find the right way to do the things I want.

I really need a good documentation. And you should know, it's not easy

if your language is not the same as the program.

There already is a wiki for truespace at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrueSpace You can add any topics you want, and hopefully Truespace will also add content to it.

Go to this wiki, and do search on truespace.

Also see truespace wiki at http://www.aboutus.org/CaligaRi.com I wonder if they would mind truespace users adding how to articles, tutorials, etc., to their wiki? Anyway, a wiki does exist on their server, we just need to ask permission and see if we are allowed to use it or not.

And if that does not work, there are free wiki sites where you can start your own wiki. See how to start a wiki at http://www.wikihow.com/Start-a-Wiki
