First off:

Im running Truespace 7.6 on a legal Virtual Machine on my MacBook Pro; obviously, because this is a Windows-only piece of Software. I'm a [UK] University student of what is effectively Computer Aided Design, and as a useful Design application we are being taught more free-style modeling programs as well as the Engineering System CATIA.

I run the Student License of CATIA [V5R17] Just fine through my VMachine of XP, so i would've thought this version of TrueSpace would be a piece of cake, to be honest.

It's not.

In comparison to running TrueSpace on the University PCs, my version is rather unusable. Just rotating and panning causing severe "flickering" and glitching.

Tech Specs:

2.4Ghz Processor

4GB RAM [Shared equally to 2GB when Windows runs]

GeForce 8600M GT Graphics Card

256MB Memory on that ^

DirectX 9.0c on Windows

As far as i was aware, these would be okay. Any obvious issues i've missed? should i whack up the VMachine run-time RAM to 3GB?

Any Help appreciated.

Hmm... You can try adjusting the quality/speed settings on your graphics card and/or in the TrueSpace hardware settings.

I'm running a GeForce 9800 GX2 on a PC and had to back off my card's quality settings a bit.

The only other thing I can think of would be to check your page file size. It sounds like you've got enough physical RAM but I'm not familiar with Macs at all.

Here is my config:

CPU: Intel Pentium III Xeon processor @ 3.17GHz (2%)

Display: Plug and Play Monitor on 2x SLI NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT @ 1024x768

HDD Total: 407.45GB Used: 239.4GB (58.8%) Free: 168.05GB (41.2%)

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1.2600)

RAM Total: 2.5GB Used: 907.25MB (35.5%) Free: 1.61GB (64.5%)

Previously I had a 512mb video card w/ 1GB ram and sometimes found screen flicker.... I don't know the overhead of the VM on your machine but suspect that it takes up sufficient resources to cause the issue you describe....

good luck
