Updated Screenie. I like the colors in this one. I have added a few things. I know I need to tweak the snowglobe, maybe. Things aren't going to be perfect in this scene (thank goodness for that).

Other than matching the globe to the base, I don't think it needs much tweeking. You are doing a good job here.

This one really does look Dali-ish. I would taper the edges of the globe base but with this challenge you really can't go wrong. A really nice start.

Thanks Steinie. I knew I must be on the right path when my wife tells me that she doesn't really like it that much

Update to my scene. I have not forgotten about the MMC this month. I have been sidetracked with other projects and a week long bout with the flu.

I think I may be straying from the intent of the MMC, I hope not but if so, oh well. I am enjoying being creative. I still have a couple of small things that I will be doing to this but nothing major.

Thanks... that is supposed to be like him looking in on the snow globe. I am trying to get all my kids and wife in there. The clock face has me and my daugher playing guitar hero :-)

I like all the twelves on your time piece. To me, it interprets new beginnings !.....Would that be Eastern or Zulu ?!!!:)

Mr. 3D...since I am a former military man, everything is in Zulu :D

I am glad you noticed that. When I first put it on there it was just a placeholder and I was going to fix them to be all the correct numbers on a clock. But after looking at it for a while I decided that I wanted it just like that because it doesn't matter what the numbers are it is still symbolic of time. My initial thought was that there are 12 months in a year so the clock symbolizes how the years pass in our lives.

I may be giving away all my secrets on the MMC but that's cool. I enjoy talking about the work and what my thought processes were while I am doing something.

Actually, your thought process and simbology is highly important for this month's entry. The thought process that goes into your work is part of a work in progress and going through it on the WIP will help other people decide what to do in their own creations.

Yep and if someone gets inspiration on what they want to do with their project from mine then that's even better.

Nice one tahnoak. Nice visual additions also.

And, I really like the original impetus you had that got this started. Very cool.

Dragn out.

Wow, incredibly busy week behind and ahead. I am not going to have any time to tweak this any more so I think this may be the last render. I will explain the scene in my final WIP posting.

Here is a wireframe of the scene. I realized that I don't have one in there. Everything was modeled in trueSpace 7.6 with LightWorks renderer with the exception of the photos on the hands of the clock and of my son looking into the snowglobe.

The picture of your son looking into the scene is an amazingly cool idea. That aspect of the scene makes it a life long keepsake :) Great scene.

Composition is one of your strong points and this picture is no exception. I like how it is surreal without bending or melting things.

@Mr. 3D: Thanks. I've always said that half of the fun for me is getting people's thoughts while they were working on scenes and I decided that I wanted to explain what the scene meant to me. For the most part I have always wanted people to have their own opinion and get their own feelings on what the scene means but in this instance I wanted everyone to know what the scene means. I felt pretty strongly about that point

@ranger: Thanks, yeah I am pretty proud of the little bugger. My goal was to get the entire family into the scene because after all they are what my life is centered around but in the end I couldn't work it out.

@Rich: Thanks. That part of the scene didn't exactly turn out the way I wanted it to. My initial goal was to have his reflection on the snow globe so you could see his face on the globe. I couldn't figure out how to do it so I did what you see now. I am happy with how it turned out (but I still want to figure out how to do what I wanted to do). I showed it to him and he was pretty non-interested at his age (4) but one day he will look back and smile (like I am now).

@Finis: Thanks. My initial plan was to have a crack in the globe and have the water pouring out of it to represent the passage of time. Sort of like sand in the hourglass but I was very busy this week and could not explore that any further so I made the clock face with all the same numbers and really liked the story that told as well.

I read about the reflection thing in your post in another thread.

Here's some things to try (don't know what you've already tried). TS 6.6 or model side:

Use Caligari phong reflectance on globe and adjust reflectance, transmission, etc. put a large plane or half cylinder behind the camera with the photo on it.

Use a second layer on the texture of the globe. It would have the photo on it and the transparency setting could control how visible the photo is.
