I'm using version 5.1 SP2 of Truespace at work; until recently, I was running Windows 2000 and had no problems but we've recently switched to XP and I've just reinstalled Truespace and am having problems with a persistent error message that says 'Error saving library'.

My object libraries appear OK, but I created a configuration and saved it to the configuration library and get the error. Every time I close the program, I get the error again. When I re-open, it resorts to the base configuration and the saved config doesn't appear in the library. I can use the import command to find it and add it to library again (with a flurry more error messages) but come close down (and another error) it's still gone again on the restart.

I tried my lighting library and don't be able to save changes to that either unless I save it under a different name.

I've not spent long enough to know if there are any other problems but does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?

Sounds to me like your trueSpace folder permissions aren't set right in windows.

How do I adjust that? And what should they be set to?

(NB - this was my query but I'm registered now)

Thanks for your help. The other thing Truespace seems to be doing is forgetting my settings everytime I close the programme - if I set up the workspace or change to an unshaded mode, it always restarts back at the deflaut configuration and ignores all the changes...

Really sounds like you don't have "write" permission in your trueSpace folders. Most likely the system administrator will have to change that.

That is a telltale sign of not having correct security permissions. If you are not a system admin contact one. If you are, right click on the tS folder, go to security-->select your username and tick allow modify.

Thanks for your help - I have managed to coax my administrator into altering the permissions and things are now working properly.

Thanks to you both for the tips, much appreciated.
