Hi! I just bought 5.2, and for some reason, I can't use an image as a background. When I try, the render will choose a main color out of the image (black, for space, or yellow for fire, for example)... What is the problem? |

Have you put a flat plane in the background to put the image on? |

Shouldn'y need to really. I have not used TS 5 for a long time. Maybe the picture format is the problem or the size. Have you tried a JPEG at the same size as you wish to render. Turn filter off in the background option too...:) |

It's completely unecessary to use a plane to put a background on for a render.
You can choose an image to use for the background in a rendered image directly.
You can also choose a background to use in the real time display but this is a seperate thing. A lot of people place a background in the realtime display so they can see it on screen when modelling and setting up a scene. When they render to file they are surprised that the background image doesn't show up and they get a plain colour. This is simply because they haven't chosen a background image for the render, only for the realtime display. |

? You have to ? I was using the free version of ts3 for a whle, and it didn't need any such thing. The manual for 5.2 doesn' mention anything about a plane, either. It should just fill up the entire background with the selected image, but right now it's only filling the background with the predominant color out of the image. |

First of all, I'm presuming you've selected 'Background Effects - Image' and then browsed to and selected a useable image (the name should show up above the 'Filter' and 'Animate' check boxes in the 'Background Image' popup box). Then you've rendered 'Scene' (and not just 'Object')
The most likely problem setting is the 'Render Quality' setting. Make sure it is set to Medium or High. If it is set to Low, your objects will render, but you will just get a solid color for the background (which sounds exactly like what you are getting).
The only alternate explanation I can offhand come up with might be with the image itself (e.g. format, size, something, ...). If the Render Quality setting as described above doesn't make a difference, try using (assuming you aren't already) one of the images that comes in the trueSpace 5 'Textures' sub-directory.
After that, hmmm ...
