Here is a 3D Point Editing Toolbar with a global tooltip.

LMB + Drag on any icon to expand nested icons.
LMB select empty space collapses all expanded icons.
LMB select any icon runs it's command.
RMB select any icon runs it's command if it has one.
Ctrl + MMB on the handle closes the global tooltip.
MMB on the handle opens the global tooltip.

Known limitation: When viewing this toolbar from a standalone Camera and selecting this toolbar causes a visual problem.
Workaround: Delete the Object Hider inside the Camera and enable the Invisible attribute on the Object Render Attributes.

May I apologise for the light grey icons(s) in there. Dave, I promise to get them to you...I plain forgot with the new term at school. We are being inspected in a few weeks so everyone is running around sorting out paperwork...:o

No need to apologize Splinters. There is no gray icons used. With the image I posted here, I had moused over it to show the tooltip. I used the 26x26 icons that were ripped from one of the dll files in trueSpace. The quality is not the best up close but it kept the total file size down considerably. I made a version with better images with Constant shaders but in the end it was well over 12MB where as this one is 2MB.

This is amazing work Dave :jumpy:.

I was hoping to be able to get transparency to work with the toolbar so that I can still see items behind it :).

Now how you got everything to work inside is pure magic! If this works in shared space then this could be used for showing how to model and tS workspace side in general. Are you going to expand this toolbar to include the animation items? Maybe better to have a separate toolbar for that. My hat off to you.

Sorry for being a pain - and at the risk of everyone knowing just how 'dense' I actually am, I'm asking for some help with this. I clicked on the rsobj and it brought me into TS with the toolbar obj on the ground plane (in Workspace), is that what it's supposed to do? It's hard to see the icons this way. I just need a few hints on how to use this - also, would/is it possible to script or code (or something) to mimic the 'pop-up' PE menu of Modelside? I am very LE 'challenged', and don't understand 'programming' at all, but I'm very interested in TS's capabilities.

Thanks for your help,

rf

@ rrf: This 3D Point Editing Toolbar is a Workspace object that has a Widget aspect to it. You load it into your Workspace scene from a Workspace library like you would any other Workspace object. Not sure why you are finding it hard to see the icons, perhaps a screen grab would help.
Note this is just a prototype of the trueSpace 7.6 toolbars made out of 3D objects. It's purpose is mainly for Shared Space for demonstration.

@ noko: Thanks, this project was a bare to implement as I was having problems taming the Widget - 3D Buttons using it in the way I wanted. Note these 3D buttons are the same ones in Shared Space that link you to other Spaces. I have a Constant Shader with Alpha version I made which allows you to set the Transparency, but like said it was 12MB and not really suited for Shared Space. Nevertheless I have found that it sometimes interferes with the Active widgets making it difficult to use one or the other and so seemed not pratical. Looks cool though! Not sure about future additional toolbars presently. Would be nice to have a 3D Character Editor toolbar though.

Like idea of the 3d toolbar, tools could actually get some depth to them maybe in the future. Another aspect I like is that this toolbar is resizable, something not in the 2d toolbars. 3d tool bars could allow for some interesting configurations, as in slated into space taking up much less room then the 2d versions.

Now you got me thinking, maybe a stacked toolbar where the hidden buttons are placed on an cube that rotates up in which you can control the motion and select the button you want. For example, mouse over object tool and rclick a cube with the hidden buttons come up which you can quickly rotate depending on what side you put the mouse, middle it stops, left it rotates to the left, right to the right, up for up down for down. The most recent button is placed on top of the 2d view of 3d toolbar. Not sure if people would really care about this though, I can see some advantages but also disadvantages as well.

Don't forget somewhat expandable too.
I was thinking that when you mouse over the icon a real 3D Object that looks like the icon would pop up and do a little dance, change colors, maybe even play a 3D sound.
Welcome to the future within trueSpace. :)
BTW this IS possible right now. :D

That could be awesome, as long as it doesn't hinder anything else. I was really surprised at the speed of your toolbar, if speed of access is quicker then the 2d version then more maybe would be incline to adopt to this method of gaining access to the tools. U/I main purpose, my opinion is to allow user quick and efficient access to the tools. Poor access to the tools can make those features worthless. Now if the tool dance is related to it's function could be useful if wanted (time watching the same dance over and over again would not be too effective in the long run) but yes interface becomes more alive.

Here is kind of a nice un thought of surprise where I have recorded Point Editing with this 3D Point Editing toolbar. If you right click the Record Toolbar icon, the Recorder Preferences will show in the Stack/Settings where you can adjust the speed and what not when playing this recording.
Note that I have attached this toolbar to a Camera which also shows it's view in the 3D screen.

That's really cool tB. :)

I think this setup could be very useful for doing demonstrations in shared spaces. Nice work!

This is a break through! Yes I hope to see this and maybe use this in shared space myself.
