Well my "abandoned" WIP is going no-where, so while I'm waiting for divine inspiration, have another plane

I decided to do the Torndo. They're the native jet and on occassion come flying over the house, and now I've also taken the chance to get a little experimental with it and try to add a unique texture instead of my usual procedural material bodge jobbing I did for the Hornet.
Panelling (the bump map currently applied) turned out quite well, about an hour or so with a line tool and paintshop pro does wonders to an object

still got to do Landing gear and Cockpit

(Mistakes, Hopefully this list won't get longer)
1)Lights on both sides are green, forgot I used the copy tool
2) Panelling on the wings and seem to have vanished thanks to dodgy lighting

Enjoy, I will be updating this space as I do new things

As always, made in Truespace 6.6

Looks great, as usual - I've always been a big Tornado fan and had a model kit of one years back which I eventually repainted in a Saudi desert colour scheme which looked pretty cool. Personally, I like the ADV (fighter) variant better as it looks a little sleeker than the Gr versions, but that's just me....

I know what you mean about using the line tool in PSP - I did the same thing for my MMC plane months back - difficulty is getting the right amplitude to make sure it doesn't look silly and making sure your maps don't distort too much so the lines end up where you want them!

Did you ever finish off the F4?

Alas Nez that fell on the backburner, it was just an uphill struggle from thereon in, as I made it as a tutorial I just didn't know what to do from there. But I've learned a trick or two from this plane so I'll hopefully start it back up. Maybe a "quick fix on making aircraft paintschemes"

thanks for all the feedback from everyone

You know it, to start with I'll play around with a custom paintjob, and what I'll do to cheat is slam it on top of my Hornet texture, although the more parts the worse because it just takes so long.

Basica outline done, I can even add Noseart onto it
(nose art copyright Schattendorn)

I've now got to increase the image resolution so we can get in close to this thing without aliasing. And adding the decals, grime, dirt etc.

Enjoy

Thanks breech, got more done tonight, I can see where Madmouse gets his love of textures from, it's just so fun (until it gets boring, tweaking different places)

So here it is, and as per request, here's a wireframe (hidden line rendered so you can maek heads or tails of it)

Thanks to schattendorn again for the tail insignia, looking to use that in a couple of places, what I'v egot left to do is grubby up both the wings and transfer the hornet materials over, then make a cockpit so it doesn't look so shoddy.

Starting to look more like what its supposed to be eh?. 20,000 rivets flying in perfect formation

One more quick update before I go to bed. Added my "hornet" material to the texture

Tricky parts left to do now, landing gear and cockpit. Should be interesting, and then I'll probably stop spamming left right and centre...

...then give it a week or two it'll appear in the gallery:rolleyes:

enjoy

Looking good! Fun to see this one, I remember being out hill walking and one of these tearing overhead supersonic at low altitude, so that the shape of it flashed by before the awful noise roared in, and of course just generally seeing them now and again fly along valleys on the west coast of Scotland. Thanks for sharing the progress!

Editing for a new paint scheme, doing a little more justice to the UV map and the artwork of the tail insignia and noseart kindly lent by schattendorn.

My odd choice of the Luftwaffe "forest" scheme (I don't know the official name, anyone please correct me) over the RAF is pretty simple, both RAF and Luftwaffe have this scheme (and the stock grey one) but I chose Luftwaffe because the base colour was nicer, and I'm getting the practice in for future planes. As we, the british don't have crazy things like this:

This paint scheme also better shows the cockpit, and as a confession I still haven't got around to texturing a single one of them as can be seen from the rear view

I have a question - how do you texture such a complicated object as this?

I can't even get the texture right on my much simplier train that I made for a MMC for some months ago.

How do you do? Do you have any 3rd party plugins?

Wow Weevil - that sounds really interesting. I have never grasped how you do UV mapping and texturing in TS. :)
