Well, this here is a result of a great collective effort. 3dvd and frootee were relentless in their pursuit of manipulating an avatars position and their labor paid off when Tomas and Norm came up with the missing pieces of the puzzle. All I did here was wrap up what they found into a trigger. So those guys definitely deserve the credit for this object. I expect there will be many things that will come out of their finding. :)

So here is a teleportation trigger for your truePlay scenes. When activated, this will teleport your avatar to whatever location and rotation you define. There is also a short video to show how to use it.

Edit: I added sound to the teleport trigger. Now you can load a sound file to play when teleported. Just check the "Play Sound" checkbox and it will play that sound when you enter the trigger. You can change the file by clicking on the file menu button (the one with the three dots "..."), browse to your file and open it, then click the "Load File" button. You can test the sound with the "Test Sound" button.

Edit2: Fixed tx, ty, and tz mixup.

Edit3: trueBlue added some better sound, an alert message, and made the buttons at the bottom smaller. :)

Edit4: Fixed path problem. It should now work with truePlay and online. :)

OK Next question...

Can we add sound? Maybe a Star Trek teleporter sound?

BTW Thanks Dele for taking the ideas and putting them into script form and testing/validating them. It was driving me nuts being on the sidelines hammering out questions and then not being able to try anything since truespace is at home (and I'm not!)

"All I did..." What you did was and is absolutely amazing here, great work, great teamwork, and great fun in store for the entire community now as a direct result of what you've put together here for us all... thank you sincerely for all of it.

If anyone's reading this who hasn't been "teleported" yet themselves inside trueSpace or truePlay.... wait till you try this and get a REAL taste of the FANTASTIC things this scripting here is paving the way toward soon!!!

Awesome achievement. Like I said before... at next Tuesday's Script Hookup Meeting "there will be enough energy in that room to light up Las Vegas," and maybe now we should throw in Tokyo as well!!!:D

Thanks for believing.;)

Absolutely! It's just a matter of having the trigger set off the sound object from the library. The only thing that sucks with sound, is if you want a custom sound, you'll have to get the people to install it on their machine and load it in. I don't think it gets saved with the scene.

It would be easy enough to trigger one of the sounds already installed with trueSpace though.

Do you want me to add that to the trigger quick? It wouldn't be hard to do at all.

well, when we distribute our scenes, we could use the Zip or RAR format, and include all 'resources' for the scene, which would include sounds!

EDIT: Heck Yeah! Go for it Man! Please do add the default sound! That will give us a way to see how a sound is added, then replace the sound with something else.

Ok, here's a version with sound. By default it is set to the Gong sound from the clock scene since that is on everyones machine. I couldn't find the truePlay portal sound. Not sure where it's located.

Anyway, just check the "Play Sound" checkbox and it will play that sound when you enter the trigger. You can change the file by clicking on the file menu button (the one with the three dots "..."), browse to your file, then click the "Load File" button. You can test the sound with the "Test Sound" button.

I'll re-attach this new file at the top of the thread too.

This is so cool.

I hate to be the one with a bug report, but...

Maybe it's my system, could well be. but the teleporter with sound has two problems when I use it, the other one without sound works great for me though and is really cool!

The one with sound, when I walk up to it, it activates and the gong sound starts, but I kind of hop up and down over it rapidly and uncontrollably as the gong is sounding, without being able to walk out of it, and it doesn't transport. I have to right click to get out of the loop. Maybe it's having some kind of problem with my system? (XPPRO SP2)

The other issue is when I try to load a new wav file. The dialog seems to work great but the file I load, even though it shows up in the script entry box in the LE after using the dialog to select it, doesn't play. The gong still plays.

No big deal, I'm so ecstatic today after you overcoming the other issues and making a cool working teleporter I could get up on the roof and start screaming!

Maybe like I say it's just some weird sys problem on my end too, I do have my share of them, so that is possible. Let's see if anybody else has the same issues before bothering with it any more.

It is just so cool to be able to have a working teleporter now. Really fun stuff like this is gonna be possible from this same base code now, but taking on a teleporter for your first attempt at this is awesome, and then succeeding at it is just too cool to be true!!!

In your Custom settings you have the Edit Boxes for tx, ty, and tz Linked wrong. i.e. tx = Ay, ty = Az, and tz = Ax

trueBlue: Thanks for letting me know. :) I guess that's what happens when you write a script too fast, lol. You sure have an eye for catching things like that though.

3dvd: If the sound isn't playing, you might have to click the "Load File" button below. It's kind of goofy, but you have to browse for the file "and" hit that button at the bottom. Not sure about the jerkyness, it runs smooth for me. Could be a machine thing.

Here's a new teleport object with the x, y, and z fixes. I'll upload a new one in the first post again too. If you find anymore glitches, let me know and I'll try to fix them.

Thanks Délé!

Frootee was right, you definitely are fast!

I'll check this out and let you know, but it could well be my ancient system and nothing more so don't worry too much about it.

This is all so much fun, I'm just lovin' it!

Dele: I wanted to clarify something about the Sound object. I believe that it is not necessary to have a given wav file on your PC in order for this to work. I believe that after you browse to your wav file and the path is stored into the FileName you then need to Import it into the SoundMemory.
Here is your Teleportation Trigger that I modified with a Star Trek transporter wav file embed into it as explained above. Can you test that this is true?

Yes, you are right trueBlue. The audio does save. I guess I hadn't tested it. I was just thinking way back from when Steve made that turntable. He had to include the file because it didn't save with the scene. Looks like the audio player nodes have been updated. That's great. :)

I like how you made the buttons smaller and the alert message was a nice touch. :)

Is it alright if I repost your version at the beginning of the thread?

Certainly and thank you ever so much for making this happen.
Is cool for sure.
BTW: I deleted the buttons that were inside the sound object because they would generate path errors.
