Here is a Workspace - Camera Viewer toolbar.
You can quickly change to one of seven camera views by selecting on its button from the toolbar and or the last viewed D3D View (Eye Camera View). Cameras have to be named Camera, Camera, 1, Camera, 2, Camera, 3, Camera, 4, Camera, 5, or Camera, 6 which is the standard naming convention for the tS7.6 Camera tool. Each Camera View icon has a Right click command that selects the Camera and displays it's Advanced Camera settings in the Stack/Panels.
The Eye2Cam tool creates a Camera from where you are viewing and enables it's view. Also the Eye2Cam tool enables you too capture the current Eye Camera View and transfer it's settings to a (Selected) alternate Camera or Object by Right clicking it's icon. Rotation, Transformation, and Eye Camera's advanced settings is transfered.

Limitations: These tools work in a Default or similar Layout. Quad view is not supported.

Instructions: Extract the Camera Viewer Toolbar folder to your Rs Main Library. From within trueSpace7.5.1 open the Library Browser and then the Camera Viewer library. From this library insert the Camera Viewer Toolbar into the Link Editor and select the Install button. Save your Layout.

Tips: Select the trueSpace 7.5.1 Camera tool and create up to seven cameras and position them where you want them. Then from the toolbar you can select and view from each of them. What I really like about these buttons is it is not necessary to have the D3D View in focus in order for these to work. Included is an example scene that is setup with seven Cameras.
Mesh Editing is supported as you will not exit PE by switching to another Camera.
You can always find any of these Cameras by right clicking it's icon which will select it.

Tip: In the Link Editor's menu select Centered Selected after right clicking one of the toolbar's Camera icon.

Wow thanks!!!! This sounds great! http://www.smileypad.com/v224/Happy/Big-Thumbs-Up.gif

A few quick related questions:

1) Does it require 4 Cameras or can you use any number of them from 1 to 4?

2) I haven't used Camera-view rendering yet in TS7.51 and need to know how to set that up on the Worspace side.

3) Will the main Camera automatically be one of the 4?

4) I'm such a newbie... when you said "You can then Ctrl + Drag it out of the toolbar" but where would I be dragging it then, to save it as an object somewhere in the stack or to actually place it in the Worspace scene?

5) You said "Note the D3D View has to be active in order for this to work as with other view commands do" which is clear to me, but what happens if one is in one of these Camera views and forgets this - switching to Model side for some reason... and when they switch back after such a mistake is it still active on Workspace side?

Sorry for all the questions but this sounds really useful and I suppose some other readers of this post have similar questions that could make them hesitate to install it - me, I just ask! :D

Thanks for this... sound like it will save everybody loads of time with complex scene navigation and rendering, great idea! :)

You can have one to five Cameras.
2) I haven't used Camera-view rendering yet in TS7.51 and need to know how to set that up on the Worspace side.
Select a Camera view "View from Camera" and render.
3) Will the main Camera automatically be one of the 4?
There is no main Camera.
4) I'm such a newbie... when you said "You can then Ctrl + Drag it out of the toolbar" but where would I be dragging it then, to save it as an object somewhere in the stack or to actually place it in the Worspace scene?
In the D3D View or Link Editor.

The D3D View's titlebar will be highlighted when active. The updated button now works in Model too.

Here is a scene saved in RsRcd format that demonstrates how to use this tool.

Note: I used the Workspace Camera tool to create these seven Cameras.

I noticed that this Camera Viewer, what used to be a Toolbar Button, no longer worked in tS7.5.1 as it did in tS7.11. So I have corrected the commands and upgraded it to a toolbar with an installation script making it easier to use. I have also added an Eye Camera button which when selected will switch your view from the last selected D3D View. See post #1 for additional details.

TrueBlue,

I am getting an error message as soon as I click on the "install" button. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

That is because the Installer is path dependent. It is looking for the files in a folder named Camera Viewer. Look at the instructions in the original post. BTW: I made some modifications to your custom layout and posted it in your thread.

Thanks TrueBlue. I found no "Camera Viewer" folder in the ZIP archive, so that confused me. So I created one and put it in the Main library and put the ZIP contents into it and then it all worked fine. This is going to get used constantly, so thanks again.

But now I don't understand what you mean by "and posted it in your thread." Where is that?

Looks great Blue, I guess you got the alpha sorted then?

No problems helping, always happy to oblige if it means these great new features can integrate seamlessly into the UI....

...and yes, that was an offer to any other 'creators'. Or make your own but I am happy to help either way...:D

Thanks again Splinters!
No I did not get the Alpha sorted out. I had to convert them to PNG and so there is no Alpha in there present shape. I am still going to try and make the script better and will be updating as soon as I can. A user pointed out to me that there is an error in the script that I can fix. So maybe others should wait until I am finshed.

I fixed the error when using the Eye2Cam tool when nothing was selected. I also changed that command to a Right click command. I added a Left click command that creates a Camera and enables it's view.

I discovered a very disappointing issue while switching to Model while testing WorkSpace Cameras. It seems when you switch to Model the Workspace Cameras are renamed. So this breaks this Camera Viewer toolbar from working when doing so as the Cameras have to be named as they were.

See the original #1 post for updates and limitations.

I have updated the Camera Viewer. It nows supports crossing the Bridge to Model where the Cameras are renamed.

Here is a secret. All these years I have used trueSpace I never used Camera view. My working preference has always been the eye view. That changed when I did the Castle scene. I needed to change views and return to a set view. This is the plugin I used and it helped me achieve my goal.

There were odd things going on while using it and wanted to check out what I was doing wrong after I completed the Scene.

What I found is if you create the Camera using the existing trueSpace "Camera" icon then use your plugin everything is perfect.

If I use your plugin's "Create Camera at Current View" I get a yellow band around the screen. (dof or zoom setting perhaps?) It doesn't behave properly when switching to the cameras created with your icon.

I read your instructions again and even you say use the trueSpace icon to create the Camera. So why do you have that button?

No complaints here at all because I've become a fan of your work and Stans. I just want to understand the workings better.

You may have noticed that many others here have just now begun to appreciate the work you guys are doing with all these improvements.

I think I understand what you are experiencing. If say for instance you are in Perspective View (Eye camera) and you use "Create Camera at Current View" from my toolbar. At this point you are within this new camera and no longer using the Eye Camera but you are in the same exact position as the Eye Camera. Hence two cameras at the same position. If you select this new camera the widget shows and if you are viewing from the Eye Camera you would be inside the widget. Try this as an example:
In Perspective View select the Reset View.
Create Camera at Current View with my toolbar.
Switch to Perspective View and with the Middle Mouse button back up until you see the newly created camera.
As for your question, the reason for the Create Camera at Current View is to save your present view. Say for instance you navigate to a certain area in your scene and you want to remember that view.
