Hi

I'm looking forward to finishing a comic book i'm creating:), I'm thinking on placing some 3D cell shaded backgrounds...

I'm creating some ones... I'd like to know what you think, could this works? ...

Did somebody shout fire in there?:D I think the scenes look great Jes: In my eyes the styling is a good blend between comic reality and 3D reality. Overall its quite eerie, especially helped by the insect perspective. I'm glad you resisted the urge to make everything look photo-realistic. Let the people back into the room then I can tell if it works even better. Post some more (different) stuff.

I really like the look and feel of these - great work.

(May I ask which toon shader you used?)

Isn't there only 1 toon shader in the shader magic plugin?

Excellent, though I might suggest less texturing on the doors.

Nope, there's more than one, and it doesn't say it's ShaderMagic anyway, hence my asking.

Hi everyone...

To LazeeGazzz :

Thanks, and my original idea is draw the characters, and make photomontage to look the characters are in the scene, and have a hybrid 2D and 3D look :p

:), Now I'm working on it yet, when I have a preview I'll post it. :D

And its the first background I've made, I'll post some others as soon as I make them... :jumpy:

To TheWickedWitchOfTheWeb:

Thanks, I'm using the U|V Toon, the Public beta April 2003. I think is the one with best results, and tho only I've tried lol  :D

To brianalldridge:

Thanks, is a good idea texturing less the doors, to make them look more "toon" i think, actualy they do not look that way... i think ...

The shading and composition look great.
The only thing that jumps out is the scale- the ceiling looks low and the doors look small in relation to the desks.
Fun renders.

I like the work and the fact that your taking chances.

But...

I TOTALLY HATE the style and utter crappiness that it brings to anything hand drawn into the scene! I suggest that you avoid or really subdue the 3D effect that is happening. Or else you'll end up with the haphazard quality that we are starting to see from American comics.

3D is useable, but it needs alot of toning down via post processing in order to look right. 3D in comics is a completely wasted effort because unless it's used multiple times it's simply easier to draw the background and save time(this issue has been popping up for the last 7+ years). However 3D in black & white or greyscale works well and with less post-op, fine examples of this is seen in the mangas Negima!, Kagome(adult), and Gantz(adult).

Hello, I like what you have done but would suggest toning down the wall and door texturing. I'm basing that on how the chairs look. I keep thinking about cartoons like Invader Zim that frequently used 3D but kept the Cel look throughout. Of course, this particular take may simply define your sense of style and in any case, it looks good already!

Will you post any of the final results here?
