I like the idea, Viz!

I enjoy the one in the German TS forum:

I agree that it would be a good idea; although these forums have a PM system (which keeps threads from turing into an instant messeging session), I think a chat system would be beneficial. We have a small chat system for our forums that didn't take much time to set up at all.

all we would really need is trueplay and a way to have a "logged on" icon showup at this forum next to your name ..

I like the live chat idea however Stan has a very good point. Why have live chat on the forums when we can hang out live in 3d? :)

Edit: Perhaps it would be nice though, if there was some kind of posting on the forums where you could see how many people (maybe even who) is in shared space at any given time. Is something like this possible?

Because there are people that are still on dial-up, Dele/Stan.

Not to be a wet blanket, but the trueplay chat app is rudimentary at best. Try dropping a link in there to see what I mean. Select, copy, (quick, before someone else types anything and it scrolls past) open browser, paste, hit enter..feh! IRC is miles ahead, 3D or not. The 3D aspect of it is a lot of extra baggage if all you wanted to do was make 'fast smalltalk'.

Now here's a concept.

Over-engineer something till it's too complex to be any use.

forums don't need chat, and 3D apps certainly don't. They're supposed to be for doin' 3D.

Oh look... #truespace on Galaxynet IRC.

woo, it's even live chat, and... get this feature!

It's run's nicely when tS is open !!! model, chat, render, chat, problem, ask a question.

why try to re-invent the wheel? especially if the new version is square.

Trebs is right! TruePlay for example is designed to be an interactive 3D app where people can share ideas faster and teach people different things, so why would you need to chat or even speak? Surely a massive guessing game would be more productive. As for real-time chatting on a forum... why would anyone want that? I mean all we could do is talk about a WIP, image or animation so responses are faster. How is that useful, not to mention more personal?

Bah, havin a bad day

guys, the shoutbox would be just for fun. To say shortly hello or to push attention to some link or what ever. Mindless smalltalk etc.

Maybe it just works good in a forum with not many people online, at least at German 3d ts forum it works very well and we enjoy it :D

It does not replace IRC or (maybe in the future) trueserve meetings.

My post was meant to be sarcastic, thus my "Guessing game" comment. Sorry about that. It's a really good idea. It would be fun as well as useful. Posting an image for example and getting instant feedback? Great idea. I can honestly not understand why anyone would be against it. All positive, no negative.

in the german Truespace Forum we use it for smalltalk or share wip´s that not worth for show in a thred.

Otherwise we can ask a few question to the guys that online in the moment.

trebs have cut it on. We have a truespace IRC chat.

This is better than a shoutbox and good to learn more about other Truespace users but not many truespace user use this way of communication :(

How ever - I am every day in the german shoutbox and in the official caligari IRC chat.
