Ever since I found TrueSpace I have always wanted to create buildings of some sort. Don't know why, I have never wanted to be an architect. I am stepping out of my comfort zone on this one to try and create some medieval type buildings to eventually come up with a small village.
This is supposed to be the local Inn/Tavern. I am working on the sign for the front and the flames in the front lanterns. I also want/need to add a bit more detail but so far I think this is coming along nicely. As always in my scenes, it is dark out. It has nothing to do with my moods, only my poor modeling skill.
I will try a day light render and see if I like it :p |

Pretty sweet; let me know if you want a texture or two, I could get some made in a jiffy. |

Will do thanks.
Edit...added updated screenie. this one has the market included (closed) and some more detail on the tavern. Obviously more work to be done... |

Thanks spyfrog, that comes from too much time playing Baldur's Gate several years back (secretly wishing for a new one to come out :) ) |

Thanks. Half of the fun of playing that game was looking at the incredible graphics which was partly my motivation for even getting into 3D modeling as a hobby. Too bad I'm not a game developer...but maybe....naahhh. :) |

Very nice! It is quite "game like" in look, perhaps I've just played too many MMORPGs, RPGs and adventure games, so used to seeing the proverbial "old inn" there that I can't help but think games when I see it :)

I agree it would work well in an adventure game or a panoramic/myst style game.. the good thing about image based pano's is poly count doesn't matter
An engine called Wintermute does 2.5D; a good example of that type of game is Syberia where its 3D generated 2D backgrounds with a 3D character wondering about |

Tom,
I agree. I may even continue on and do a scene inside the Inn. Hopefully by the time I am done one can almost smell the potatoes and ale :) |

nigec thanks. Yes, a lot can be said about Syberia type games. I rather enjoyed most of that game
I checked out Wintermute. It does seem pretty interesting. Guess I may have to spend a little bit of time delving into that to see if I like doing that stuff or not. I used to write a lot of VB code for my own use so I am not totally lost when it comes to scripting and such but not sure if I want to add to my "relaxation" level |

Very nice look and feel tahnoak. Add a bit of background and props, and it could be a movie still :) |

Thanks Dragneye. I will continue to tweak this. I have added another building and am focusing a lot of time on the terrain. I figured out a way using GIMP to lay out my roads but now I need to ensure they all line up as one terrain is waaaaay to big. I added a sign to the Tavern but its hard to see so I need to figure out a way to make that more noticeable. |

It's a cool model - I'd like to see a daylight view just to scrutinise the geometry - looked like there might be a few slightly suspect areas (no roof thickness?) but this may be deceptive just because of the lighting. It's a very nicely atmospheric model (again) - you've certainly got a knack for that... |

Nez, you are right on. There are definitely some modeling flaws in the building, the roof thickness being one of them. I am still working on the kinks in my modelling skills which is why I stick to the dark side, for now :)
I will try and work on a day render tonight, if the kids will allow. |
