Need help in where to go next with this. Tried different floor designs but none seem to work.
Give up on the apples. Lost interest. |

Have you tried using the displacement tool to make the floor? and hair to make grass? |

A couple of suggeations:
1) make the chopping log look like it has been used for chopping, there should be previous axe marks in it. Chips of the side from misses.
2) the axe handle looks like it is brand new, you need to scuff it up, dirty hand marks on the handle, some splittlering and use on the axe head and handle connection.
3)ditch the harsh lighting, it is not natural unless this is a workshop type situation.
4)if it is a workshop, make it look like one... is it a barn? is it an old tool shed? Are you behind the barn under a lean to? Jayr has a good suggestion on grass form the hair tool. Dele has a neat Swatting (?) tool tool available for making some interesting ground.
5) the softsection tool works well for creating uneven ground
I hope these were of some use for you.
Enjoy te journey.

Great start and I particularly like the tree trunk texture.
Where to go? hmmm, I'd opt for forest floor with plenty of debris. Of course, you could always put in an oil can or a funnel and head for a scene from a classic! :-) |

Just a quick update.
Wanted to keep lighting so placed indoors. Not sure about which wall to use? All ideas welcome. Will cover most of floor with logs ready for chopping. :) |

I think the one one the left is a more realistic scale. |

Agree with the left wall choice.
In a similar vein, the texture scale on the smaller logs appears to be a scrunched-down version of the one on the chopping block.
You may want to consider scaling up the UV or decreasing the reps so that the texture scale on both logs matches.
Some other ideas to throw at you:
Other tools: saw, wheelbarrow, hatchet and bucket of kindling, woodbox, wood rack, pallet, bark/wood chips piled around the base of the chopping block, gloves and red (naturally) flannel jacket/shirt cast aside because:
Chopped wood warms twice.
Have fun! |

Logs? All that excellent work and all you want to chop is logs? :) I just started using trueSpace, and look forward to when my stuff looks that good. I do like the walls especially, and the wood textures!

I agree in that it would be great to see some debris or some remnants of work. Great job for just starting. I look back at when I first started (technically I am still "just starting") and I shudder.... |

Thanks for all the responses, like I said in title I didnt know where to go with this but seems to be coming along nicely now.:) Just one more question. How do I make pic look bigger? Looks good on computer but when uploaded looks really small. |

Looking good. I won't comment on anything yet as you're still adding so it'd be irrelevant. As for making it bigger, do you mean rendering to a larger size? If so, are you rendering from Model or Workspace side (and which engine, LightWorks or Vray)? |

Rendering in model side (cant get on with workspace) using lightworks. When looking at pic on comp things look really big and good, when showing on forums website all seem small. Just wondering if there was some way to make pic look bigger on this forum.
Thanks. |

OK, first things first... when you render to file, which size do you have selected? Window, the drop down box of pre set sizes or Other wher you can set your own? I'm guessing you're looking at a full window (not four view) on screen but are rendering out to a smaller size. Remember, though, that the forum limit is 800x600 so don't go rendering massive for posting here as it'll be met with a frown. Especially not worth the extra render time when it's just for WIP feedback. Save the time consuming larger renders for final version(s).
If that's not the problem, can you detail your render process step by step so we can try to identify what's wrong. |

Here I have a regular sized axe for big cuts and also a maul; 10 lb one, which I use to strike the regular axe to cut kindling from say the piece on top of the large log. Nice wood stove would be cool in the pic. Looking very nice though :) |

Add a chainsaw, maybe a few other modern elements like the suggested gas can - then hang red riding hood's cloak on the wall next to the woodcutter jacket.

Quick update.
Added a stove (enjoyed making that) Next is a chain saw. Then more bits and pieces around side of bench. Also changed lighting and gave him a radio.:) |

This is really coming along nicely. I like it a lot.
If you don't mind me making two suggestions.
That stove seems a bit fancy for a work shed :D (but then if the work man has got the money there is no need to put up with some rusty barrel stove).
I think the floor needs some litter (wood chips, also maybe some scuff up of the dirt around the splitting stump).

Nice job. Half of the fun, from the observers point of view (at least for me anyways) is watching the progression of a scene and wondering what I would do next. :) |

Cant seem to get TS to work properly. Every time I try to open scene all I get is this response. Tried opening up using default on start up, no good. All other scenes seem to be okay just this one. Any help anyone. If not will give up and post last render I saved tomorrow. I think you might have to zoom in a bit to see this.
Thanks. |
