Nice start. Looks like you could model those depressions in the ground. Maybe introduce some variation in the vegetation. And make it assymetrical.

I like the textures, the groud is a bit lo-res at the moment, but that's an easy fix.

Any updates? I've been waiting.;)

Yeah, ditto.:)

To help show scale you could either make everything except the little tree bigger or zoom in more.

Watch your shadows the viewers eye doesn't lie. The shadow on the right doesn't match the rest. Here is a secret I use all the time to bring "out" a rendering.

Two infinite lights to start. One is white and the other a color to show mood. Set one for shadow casting. Now as you rotate the lights you'll be amazed how the scene changes in real time. When everything looks right start to play with colored spots or other lights to strengthen the scene. At the end you can get into DOF which people eat up here. (simply because that is how our eye sees.)

You might want to consider darkening the lighting a little bit and changing the angle of your lights as well. As Steinie pointed out, the faces of the rocks on the right are bright but your shadows from the trees indicate the light source is on the other side of the rock.

Great tips Steinie, thanks.

Why not try a small terrain along the edge of the rocks to make them look as if they have been there some time? i did this with the grave stones in my SMC:

Deadline date extended to 11/23/08 and poll date to 11/29/08.

It is going to be difficult to show scale with, necessarily, no familiar objects in the scene. The only clue I can think of for the viewer is the size and style of the textures.

Hey I found your strange "tree" and it also lives (other then Mars;)) in the Namibia Desert. It is called the Kokerboom or Quivertree since it's hollow branches are used to hold arrows.

Still chipping away... More rocks... Some DOF...

A desert tree was kinda what I was going for.. that and those stunted trees you find high up in the mountains at the last edge of the tree line..

Thanks to everyone for your advice and encouragement.. Gonna try to get to post one more pic before the deadline.

Good Luck EveryOne!!!

A couple more; here's a nice Martian sunset. (http://photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/catalog/PIA07997)

And a good starting point. (http://mars.jpl.nasa.gov/)

Well... I think this is my final Entery.. PotoShoped a Martian sky.. Tryed to get a little better handle the DOF... Retextured the ground again.. I'm pretty happy with my results... If I had another week I think I might add some Mars Rover track marks.. I think that would nail down the scale problem.

So... Good Luck Everyone and thaks for all your help.

I get a nice feeling of depth. Looks good, the sky really brought it all together.

Good luck.
