Here's the HD 2400:

I'm using a Radeon HD 3600 series card and it works fine.

My card has 512Mb ram, how much ram does his graphics card have?

I am being told 2 gig...

but i think they mean the computer ... big gamer so I assume the card is maxed out ....

...

They are mostly interested in gaming /real-time workspace development

I take it you have no problems viewing bumps and normal maps, cast shadows etc in real-time view...?

That is my main concern....not how fast etc .. but mostly that all the key realtime visual effects are working...

Uh-ya, I would think so! lol!

A 2Gb ram video card would most likely cost you $3000+ if such a thing is/was available. A top of the line NVidia Quadro (1.5Gb?) costs something like $2600

Generally, no, no real problems-of course if you get stupid silly and start trying to do over the top 1 million poly models, etc and other mega stuff, then no consumer grade computer or video card will handle it. That's when you start looking at workstations like an $8000 Boxx Labs system:

He's already got the video card, and TS 7.6 is free, so why not just try it out? If he likes TS but the ATI doesn't cut it, then he can always buy a new card. Simple.

The only way to know for sure is to test drive TS 7.6 on his system.

Here are Tom's Hardware's comparison charts - choose the game or benchmark, and see the results for a bunch of cards:

Depending on what 2600 it is, it looks like its about the same as an 8600 from NVIDIA, so should work pretty well, though some versions are back below the 7800. Not the best, but certainly workable in workspace I would say.

HTH!
