Well, it's been a while since I did a wip. After seeing Vizu's chillout corner (which is coming along quite nicely :) ), it reminded me of a scene that I started working on a while back. One of those many, many, half finished projects. Well, I figured I'd pull it out and see if I can't get it a little further along.

I started adding textures and thought I'd play around with the player realtime render view a bit to see what I can get it looking like. I still have a few objects missing from the scene yet (suggestions welcome). I'm planning on using the soft selection tool to loosen up the bed and pillows as soon as I have the textures looking alright. Eventually I'll do some renders with GI and such. :)

C&C welcome. :)

Nice Bachelor pad! My only crit is that the window blinds and the Louvre doors are too similar. How about using some frosted glass....or even stained glass in the windows. They'd throw some (even more) amazing light-shadows around the room.

Thanks guys. :) That frosted glass idea sounds good. I may have to play with that a bit. I was thinking of adding some small plants on the ledges by the bed. Maybe a little abstract statue on the table too.

Got a bit too busy today... should have more time to work on it tomorrow. :)

Hi Délé

You're off to a good start. I'm wondering about scale of the bed though. It may be the camera angle but I would expect the bed to look almost as long as the doors are high. I don't know but I'm wondering if the bed is a touch too small

Looking good otherwise.

Well, this slipped away from me for a bit but I finally got a little more done. I made the sliding doors frosted and took down the blinds on them. I added a background but I plan on swapping it out for a better image. I textured the bed and tweaked a couple of things. I also adjusted the lighting. I wasn't able to get the spotlights shadow nice and clean so I put in a couple of directional lights and an ambient light.

Thanks Wizard. :) I adjusted the bed a bit. I made it both longer and thought that it should be a bit wider too.

Getting there. Resize the doors so that the top of the doors match the height of the top of the windows. I think that's pretty normal, and it will keep the bed from looking like a young child's bed. Oh, and put a dent into the middle of those pillows. They look hard as rocks. Nice WIP. Keep it up.

I'm not the only one having problems with floating objects! (the stool at the foot of the bed) Nice lighting

Hi Délé,

looking good mate but that bed does look seriously hard for a good nights sleep.

Maybe if you rounded/beveled the edges off a little it would soften the look of it.

Something like the one below.

Keep up the good work.

rj0: Thanks. I see what you mean, those doors are a little low.

brianalldridge: lol. Yeah, I still need to tweak the lighting more. The objects are grounded but the lack of proper shadows is making them look floating.

Madmouse: Thanks. Yeah, I'm still working on the bed. I just wanted to texture it before I go to town with the soft selection. I plan on ruffling up the covers and pillows.

Thanks again guys. :)

Got a little more done here. :)

I adjusted the lights a little more and tweaked some textures. I loosened up the bed and pillows (although I think the pillows still need a bit of tweaking yet). I added a statue and a ficus. Man, plants are very tedious, but I think the model turned out pretty good. :) I was thinking of adding some small plants on the shelves too. I'm not real happy with the shadows yet so the lights still need some adjustment. Perhaps I'll add a few odds and ends too so it looks more lived in too. Still have yet to find the right background.

Looking good Dele!
I really like the Ficus tree. I was thinking you may want to lower the door knobs down a little bit.

Ah yes, now I think I could get a good nights sleep in that bed:)

The tree looks great to, is the trunk a little to bright maybe???

Coming along nicely Délé keep 'em coming.

It's coming along very well. Something about it makes me think of "Fantasy Island" (the first one) with Ricardo Montalbahn and Herve Villachez...remember that show?

Remeniscent of one of the island suites! :)

I dig the tree, too!

Coming along nicely. I think the bed still looks a little small in proportion to the room (could be I'm just used to my small pokey bedroom). The plant makes a huge difference - I'd like to see a little more furniture - chest of drawers etc - it looks a little too 'zen' if you know what I mean, though of course that could be what you are going for.

Keep 'em coming.

Here's a slight update. I pulled out a little more definition with the lighting and tweaked some textures. Getting close to what I'm looking for although this light setup does bring my graphics card to it's knees. :) Still searching for the right background.

trueBlue: Thanks. :) Good idea, I lowered the handles a bit.

MadMouse: Thank you. :) I think the trunk was close to my reference photo but the light setup didn't pull out much definition.

JPSofCA: Thanks. :) Yes I remember fantasy island, lol. Do you remember what kind of M&M's are tattoos favorite? :) lol

W!ZARD: Thanks. :) I also have been pondering about the bed. I think it may be somewhat the perspective too though. It is as tall as the sliding doors and as wide as two of them. Perhaps I should try making the pillows a tad smaller and see what effect that has. As for the look, I am going for a more modern, somewhat Zen style so I've been trying to lean towards mostly simple geometric shapes. I do want to add some odds and ends a bit to give it a slight lived in feel too though. I may pull a "Daybe" and have a dresser with a few small objects on it slightly obstructing the view in the bottom right or something. Still much to do. :)

The stool has landed!:p Don't know if this on your to do list, but the walls could use more visible texture.

I like the image in general but I dislike the floor it seems to be very dull and needs brightening up;)

I think it's time to wash that bedding...looks like whoever is sleeping there is coming home from a day in the coal mine and jumping straight into bed.
The walls could use a little variation- even 'solid clouds' with a couple similar shades of white would give them a little life.
I've never seen a sideways ceiling fan like that...it looks deadly.

Coming along nicely! I do, however, still get the odd sense that the doors are a bit too large relative to the rest of the elements in the scene.

Thanks for the feedback guys. :)

I agree about the floor. I'm not happy with it yet either. I was playing around with different textures but was getting an almost pixilated effect when I added the variation I wanted (like when you boost the contrast too much). I'll have to play with it more. The walls are also on my to do list. :)

@Délé:

I just have to ask this (everyone can kik my head for doing so) :D

Is that ficus a realtime render from the player window? IF it is, how do make those shadows so soft and smooth and sweet and real and yum yum. When I look at objects in the player, the only light casting a shadow is the spotlight and that shadow is flat black. :(

Without making this anymore offtopic, what settings (more like what display card) do you use to get those shadows?

Hey Dele, looking good, is this a realtime player view?

I may pull a "Daybe" and have a dresser with a few small objects on it slightly obstructing the view in the bottom right or something

Funny can't wait to see what you come up with.;)

Thanks guys. :) Yes, these are all realtime player renders.

For that little ficus render I used Parva's outstanding Dome Light (Here (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=296)). Thanks Parva. :) It can give the graphics card a work out but renders very nice with very minimal adjustment. I also used a cut down version of it with shadows off to pull out more contrast in my scene. I always have the realtime AA set to 4. As for the graphics card I'm using an nvidia 6800 ultra. I do get a little frame rate drop with this scene and light setup, but I am able to move around without too much trouble.

Ah. That solves it. I'm using Radeon 9800 Pro and, well, with the dome light I get a free circus with flying black triangles telling me they are shadows. Lol. So no player renders for me. :(

I finally got around to doing a bit more. :) The bamboo was being difficult so I had to take a break. Took even longer then the ficus I think. Anyway, I added some window panes, added some subtle texture to the walls, got the floor looking a bit better again, and touched up a couple of other things. Getting closer, little by little. :)

Thanks Steve. :) It's supposed to be frosted glass on the patio doors. I made it really opaque because I'm not planning on having shades and so thought it would be more private while still letting in a little light. Do you think it would look better if it were a bit more decorative? Maybe some designs?

I was also thinking of adding a little dressing at the top of the doors. I'm not sure if that would look funny having it over the doors and not the windows. Any one have any thoughts?

This scene is looking cool, what is more cool, that is if Dele allows, we will be able to move around in it when done :).
