Lotta and Big Foot were last seen in Vegas so they won't be

Based on great feedback I changed a few features. (My wife thought it was a Hippo too..)

p.s.

maybe it WAS a Hippo!!!...:p

First character head is ready...next up props.

Tools used so far:

100% workSpace (zero crashes by the way...I haven't crashed in Months)(Modeler phooooey)

Nostrils, Boolean subtracted two spheres. Then I used the "Soft Paint Brush" set to "Grab 2d" and shaped.

"Paint Faces with Current Material" to get the two tone.

"Hair Density Brush" using "Star Shape"

Editing tools used "Add Vertices, Add Edges","Dynamic Sweep", "Form Faces" and "Weld Geometry Together"

Realtime Render

Neigh!!!:p

Starting to add props. In the following tutorials in the links I'll provide it is mentioned not to use a cube but a flat plane for making cloth. However to make a pillow I would suggest a cube and let it expand like this "lovely" example...

Well I only made it back (to the thread) today but glad to see I guess at a donkey from the first picture (and not a dog/donkey...)

Seeing a donkey, I started thinking Nativity-related picture but that's almost too straight-forward for you :D Great character though...

Trivia:
When Andrew Jackson ran for President in 1828, his opponents tried to label him as a "jackass". Jackson, however, liked the nickname and put a donkey (jackass) on his campaign posters.... thus begins the Democrat legacy !

Wow! You are fast Steinie!

When I first saw your title for this thread I thought of "dude looked like a lady" (Aerosmith?) Then I thought it was a dog. Now I think it is a horse.

I like the mini tutorial nature of your thread too.

If the shoe fits....

Let me introduce Jack's new Partner. Who else but "Easy Does It"

a real Thoroughbred. (applause).

Cut the cake

Cut the cake

Music in the background,

A toast to the new couple. (clap clap, cheers)

Their first dance. (sniff sniff)

"The Honeymoon"...;)

to be continued...

Is there some Godfather reference going on here? Intrigue, intrigue! And nice renders to go with it. Intriguinely nice renders! How to race ahead? Can't wait to see more.

Starring Steinie, as the perpetual bridesmaid.
Sharpen your elbows and get in there and catch that bouquet!
If all else fails try a pinch of orange fog.

<edit> I should cross-post this to the 'October Winners' thread>

I have been exploring various wording possibilities for this gag so that most people will "get it" This is the unseen part of being a Cartoonist.

Caveman Cartoonist had it easy (before spoken word), they would draw "Grunt" throwing a spear and missing the gazelle by a mile.

"Grunt" would get even by forcing "Caveman Cartoonist" to paint his hand on the cave walls. All the Cave Woman would now know "Caveman Cartoonist" had the smallest hands in the tribe. (this was the earliest version of "A Man With Small Feet Has A Small ...")

Without using text my gag would probably be understood by the same amount of viewers who know what "corn huskers lotion" is. Not many.
So today I spent time trying out ideas to get the joke across to more viewers. I just hope that later on my hand is not spray painted on the side of some building in New Jersey!

Moving on...

For me it always starts with an idea. The next step is to make some quick sketches. Then I'll study the real thing to make sure I am getting the Character right. (proportions, essence, silhouette)
I even made a mistake earlier by not doing the above and got the ears wrong!
BUT that is how you learn.
Once I started box modeling I did quick renderings so that you all could see it develop from sketch to 3D model.
After I modeled the torso I saved the model to use for the other Character "Easy Does It".
"Jack" has a large butt and strong hind legs, so I'll model fresh from the waiste down. By reusing the top it saves me an hour of work.
I'm letting you see the model before giving it hooves. I'll make one and copy it 3 more times.

I hope some of you are getting something from all this...
