I started off with a flat plane 14x14x0.5 in size

I then extruded certain 1x1 squares upward to make the desired shape.

Now I would like to remove all the squares OUTSIDE the main shape. Basically I want to trim out the edges so that I'm only left with my 14x11 shape.

I can't figure out how to trim away the excess!. I tried using the subtraction tool but that didn't work.

Can someone tell me how to remove the parts that I don't want.

Hey mmakrzem,

One way would be to select all of the vertices that you don't want and use the erase vertices button to delete them.

Off top of my head have you tried selecting the unwanted vertices and deleting them? Alternatively, selecting the unwanted faces and using the Seperate tool (on the point edit toolbar, looks like an egg with the top chopped off!) might work, though you 'may' need to tidy up some stray points after.

HTH

(Dele's reply wasn't there when I started mine, sorry to duplicate the advice, but I guess it means it'll work! :-) )

Thanks guys. I tried what you suggested and I got it to work.

After I delete the unwanted vertices, I still need to go back and create new faces for the now "open" section. Not too big of a deal though.
