Using the lamp that I modeled in my first project, I added a pencil box and drawing tablet. Along the way, I learned something about texture mapping and even dipped a toe into the LE.

Nice start. Now try messing with textures and lighting and different camera angles to see how it can come to life. Have you tried the HDRI yet?

Nice start - I like how your picture is telling us a story. You already have the core of a nice picture - next comes the part where you work on the smaller details to really sell the image.

Textures and Lighting and POV as Splinters suggests, also little details - a cord for the lamp, a glass of water or a coffee cup with some coffee ring stains on the table, a half eaten sandwich or something, perhaps suggesting the artist has just got up to answer the phone or something.

Successful 3d art is not just about the knowledge of how to create and texture and light model geometry but also about colour, composition and above all, how to tell a story.

You're off to a good start - keep it up :D

Thank you for all of your comments. You've given me some ideas for further exploration of this fun tool. Modeling a wire and a pool of liquid on desk seems to be an interesting task. I am finding that modeling non-organic curvy edges to be a challenge on the Workspace side.

This project has been a good learning vehicle.
