I have tried to look in the forums for anyone having this similar problem but no luck.

Most of the time I have been saving my scenes to the old (Getting use to the new Ts) tS6.6 scn format with no problems pulling them back up in tS 7.51. Yesterday I decide to save a scene I have been working on (layer and all) in the new RsScn format of tS 7.5. Today I opened the file and it is a blank scene. All my work since yesterday is gone! Not a lot in it but I have done a bit of modeling on a couple of objects. The file says it is 260 kb in size but it is just a blank scene. Where are all my layers and objects? Anyway to recover or is there a fix I am not aware of. I would like to keep saving to the new tS 7.5 format but for now going back to scn. Suggestions please.

Layers don't transfer over to Workspace side. So any layers that were invisible likely weren't saved. Also you need to have the bridge on to transfer objects from model side to Workspace side.

Keeping in mind that Workspace and model side aren't really compatible (the reason for the bridge) you should save model side stuff (metaballs, Nurbs, etc) in model side and workspace side stuff (scripting, procedural objects, BVH animations, hair, displacement) in workspace side.

Ooops!

I might as well put in my hardware specs if it helps...

Office PC

Dell 380 model

Pentium D 3.00 GHz

2 Gigs RAM

200 GB Hard drive

Video card is a Quadro Fx 540 with 128 MB of RAM

I just created a sample file with three basic objects in it and saves it again to the RsSCN format and still the same empty file. However everything saves in the original scn format pulls up fine.

Yep! I have always been saving on the model side. Not on workspace side yet. But is the format RsSCN only valid for workspace work?

Hello, I had a similar problem when I first started using 7.5. However, I now always save my scenes as a PROJECT .RsPrj in the workspace. Not as a scene. Never had any problems since. Even for what I do in the modeler side. Hope that might help some.

Ah! Good suggestion! I will start to do that. Thanks!

And thanks to MR. Edwards as well for pointing me in the right direction os looking more into the bridge and syncing both spaces. My main concern was that something in my setup will not make me benifit on all the features of the new tS.

Thanks again!

You're welcome Turlemock! :)

Also the libraries are context sensitive, so if you do a right click->insert into an object library for example then it will only save the currently selected object. I always use the Insert As menu so that I can pick what format I want to save it as.

When working on Workspace side, saving as an RsScn should save everything in your scene except maybe the VRay render settings I believe. If you have objects on workspace side and they aren't saving then some thing's screwy and it would be worth capturing screen shots or video and posting it for Paul at Tech Support to look at. Also if it's a reproducible bug, that's important to know as well so that the programmers can fix it for 7.6.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do plan on saving the "corrupted files" for now. Will try several things. Like work in the workspace totally and save in the Rscn format. Do screen captures, etc. I have been dong various things so far. I have even changed the extension to .scn and tried opening it. That does not work either. If I have a bug I will certainly report it to the tS team. My only theory is that I had the demo version previously installed on the system which I uninstalled before installing my bought copy. Maybe a setting from the demo prevents me from saving.

Hmm.... if you installed to separate directories, having installed the demo version shouldn't matter...Being a beta tester I always have multiple versions installed at the same time. ;)
