at last!!!
just didn't find the time to work on this until last night...
still very basic, gonna have all the segments of the cruiser 'train' done before going into finer details and texturing...
this is the front engine part with the control cabin that the game ranger tracker and driver sits in... |

Thanks Nez, this is only a wildlife safari vehicle so there is no turrets, unless it is on an exotci scifi planet with huge dangerous creatures ;)
Here is an update, had to start all over when trueSpace lost the scene I did :( Seems like there is a bug when you start trueSpace with a scene that has missing texture, it stays stuck on the warning message screen, and if open another trueSpace sessions and continue and save and exit and then continue the other session, the first one overwrites what you already saved in the other :(
Anyways, added a lookout platform with a canvas roll up roof behind the cabin with a slide door in the back of the cabin to reach it. Also added some ladders and rungs and handles to climb into the cabin.
Next will be a small crew cabin for the drivers to sleep and life in before I start with the first luxury tourist trailer with side lookout bubbles and a open roof suite, ala-penthouse... |

Intersting concept as usual. Sure you're gonna have all sorts of funky gizmos on the top of it. Game shooting gallery perhaps? :D |

How did you know weevil? ;P
Here is an update, it's going a little slow but I will try and finish it... soon
Added the crew container with window flaps and back landing ladders...
Busy adding the lookout tower and edge railing on the roof now.... then I'll move onto the guest trailer... which should go a lot faster... |

Another update and I think this is last one for the lead control unit... next is the guest trailer...
Made some notes on the image itself which should be self explanatary.
First time ever I used NURB plains with Bland Surface tool to make fabric/cloth materials! Thanks to the free video tutorials on Designing with Nurbs... |

Alright, here is the latest, I think I'm done with the main vehicle...
Now I'm not sure what to do next, make a guest trailer or make an exotic creature that has a harness on for the guests to ride on, like a basket on elephant backs... saw an episode of BBC Planet Earth where they showed strange animals and things and saw these weird, shirp-like creatures in the biggest lake in the world in Siberia and thought, now that would make a great creature to ride on and it fits with the 'safari' theme...
Don't think I have enough time both the trailer and the transport creature so I need to decide and get it done in the next two days... |

Thanks Weevil...
Was too tired and had no inspiration to do much last night, only NURBed the drivers cabin to see what it looked like...
Will see what I can do tonight... |

Well, managed to make a native Grasser beast for the Safari Cruisers guests to admire, but it is also part of the 'transport of delight' theme objects because as you can see, they are riding the thing ;) |

Cool job theuns, like the first two pictures in particulalr and your creature is great.
Noticed that your cab isn't shown all rounded like the previous post - I actually prefer the shape you've shown but don't know if you've made a final decision? |

Thanks Nez, thought abut it for the while and decided to stick with the angular surfaces, fits in better with the rest of the design :)
Also left the characters as 'blockmen' (as I named the actual objects) since the focus is on transport and not the people using it...
Might expand on them if I decide to polish this one and enter it for the monthly Caligari one.. used a few new tools for this that I have never used before ;)
Oh yeah, like you can see, i also decided on the creature instead of the trailer but might still add that later... |

here is my final images, added some tracks, changed the light shadows from mapped to radiosity, lifted the right most characters out of the ground, moved the little stands behind the cockpit outwards for better view, added another 'blockman' coming out of the doorway behind the cockpit, adjusted the hatches, toned down the undercarriage metal texture, shifted the 'blockmen' on the creatures back down so their bumps actually sits on the creature and repositioned the camera angle a little... phew!!!
Here is my final image after battling to connect to the internet... |

Great job theuns. I really like the way you always seem to create a whole living landscape\world for your MMC entries. Love the lighting on this by the way. |

Yes, the lighting here is excellent! A sense of realism, which contrasts nicely with the clearly fantastical beast in the image.
Thanks!

thanks guys, really apprciate the comments ;)
amazing how much difference lighting makes! i choose that lighting setup because the late afternoon to dusk colours enhanced the desert/bush feel of the scene... :)
going to spend the rest of the month enhancing and polishing it off for the Caligari competition, add that luxury guest trailer I originally intended and change the 'blockmen' into people... |

Looks great. I am normally not really interested in the SCI-FI kind of themes but this is an interesting concept and the modeling is great. |

Well, I didn't get to add a lot of stuff I wanted to so I only changed the background (real object moon and old backdrop I made myself log ago) and some environment effects (depth of field)
Here is the final one for now... |
