I have a wired behaviour here. Thumbnail viewer has worked before. And now it refuses to.
I did two things before it stopped working. So i am not this sure which one caused it. First was that i accidentally connected the file format 3DS to trueSpace 6.6. Second was to uninstall 3D Gamestudio Demo and installed it for the commercial version from scratch.
Now the funny part. Next thing i did was that i tried to open a folder containing a 3DS file and a trueSpace 6.6 scene. And Windows Explorer refused to open it, telling me about a crash in the thumbnailviewer.dll.

And that's basically it. I am not longer able to open folders with TS scenes inside when the thumbnailviewer is installed. Folders doesn't open anymore when there is a *.scn file inside, and system freezes then. I have to restart my PC.
I tried everything to solve this, including uninstalling TS and uninstalling 3D Gamestudio several times. No luck. And i have disconnected 3DS from trueSpace. Also no luck. Any suggestions how i can get the thumbnailviewer back working?
One more for the case that i cannot solve it: the standard icon is now missing for the *.scn files. How can i get it? |

I cant determine from the post if you have uninstalled the thumbnail viewer , and then reinstalled it .
if you uninstall the thumbnail viewer does explorer still refuse to open the folders.
I believe reinstalling the viewer should re-associate the files the files and restore the icons. |

First i had this strange behaviour with crashing the Windows Explorer by trying to open a folder that contained an *.scn file and an *.3ds object. Then i uninstalled the Thumbnail Viewer. Everything was back working. I reinstalled Thumbnailviewer, which caused the Windows Explorer to crash again when opening the folder.
Again i uninstalled and reinstalled the Thumbnail Viewer. But also TS 6.6 and Gamestudio in several combinations. Kept me busy for several hours, becaue you always need to reboot for installing the Thumbnail Viewer. Result is always the same now: installed thumbnail Viewer causes Windows Explorer to crash when i try to acess a folder that contains a *.scn file.
And so i don't have the Thumbnailviewer installed at the moment.
Hmm, trouble is a bigger one by the way. My whole system is acting wonky now. Programs refuses to open. Am at scanning for virusses at the moment. I keep you informed if i can find something in this direction. |

Nope. Ad Aware, Avast and Spybot doesn't find anything. Next step is to clean up the registry. Maybe this helps ...
EDIT: . My Not starting other software seems to be another issue. I unistalled everything trueSpace, uninstalled 3d Gamestudio, have run a regcleaner, installed everything back, and voila, Thumbnailviewer is back working. Let's have a look how long :) |

Uninstall it...I found that once it started it keeps going until you remove the software. I installed Vista on my machine and tried it out and it now behaves...
It's something that either conflicts with the software on the machine or possibly something that interferes with the files as it only happens after saving a file many times.
Besides, isn't the thumbnailer meant for TS5? |

Thumbnailviewer installs with the install exe of TS 6.6 ;)
I really have no clue what conflicts here. Have used Tviewer for years now. And now it starts to act weird.
As told, the new things i did was a wrong file association and to install Gamestudio A7 commercial. That was the last things i did before ... |

I've had the issue on a 'clean' dell build, if you can call them that...
Course, it could me Mcafee or something. I use AVG at home and have never had an issue but at work, it dies and they have mcafee....which sucks. |

I believe this happens when you have "other" flavors of thumbnail viewers. They all do same task so they conflict. Could be just uninstall it and see how other viewers react ..... or vice versa. |
