Hello

I have reached a serious problem I hope I can get help with pretty fast. I built my skeleton starting with the limb library then added all my own additions. Now I am trying to attach the skin to skeleton. When I attach it to the main mesh the bicep bones and thigh bones are not assigned to any vertices, so if I move the whole skeleton, those vertices are not assigned and stay in place. When I go to vertex weight paint and click on the left bicep bone the vertices around the right bicep bone are highlighted, although they dont move when I move the skeleton. When I select the right bicep bone and thigh bones no vertices highlight. So this doesnt seem too bad a bug right? well, heres the really bad part. When I select the bones mentioned and try to vertex paint the vertices actually move as if I'm doing soft paint on them or something. So I am completely unable to paint the vertices without destroying the model. Also after I deselect the model after the initial attach skin and paint attempt I am unable to vertex paint again. I select the model, enter vertex paint mode, the cursor is a paint brush but when i click a bone the model becomes deselected and I am unable to select a bone.

Here is a link to scene files containing the attached and unattached skeleton and skin for examination. I would reallyh appreciate feedback on this soon. It is a serious set back to my project.

Thanks a lot.

I am trying to send this bug to tech support but when I click submit form it does nothing. I really need help with this so I know what my next step with truespace is.

Downloading to take a look - meantime though, can you give more info on "and added all my own additions"

What workflow was followed there (as close to step by step as you can), and what additions - we'll need to know the steps in order to try to recreate the problem shown in the scene.

For faster response, please email thomas@caligari.com, easier for me to track things via email than here on the forums.

Thanks!

Tom

EDIT - PS my first thought is that the "unassigned" vertices are in fact assigned to some other bone. Then adding them to the expected bone has them pulled in unusual directions by the influence of two bones now. Could be they need to have the influence of another bone removed. However, just a guess, and could be completely wrong. It might give the behavior you describe though.

I cant load the "attached" object.

I can load the unattached, and do the attaching - what I see is that the right arm bicep vertices are assigned to the right arm top bone AND the left arm top bone. The same is true for the legs.

What seems to be happening is that both the left and right bones are being seen as the same bone - if I assign the vertices to one bone, they are assigned to another at the same time (same if I subtract them).

Could be something to do with the way the skeleton was modified - it appears to be the first bone after the tagged joint that causes the problem, hence the legs and arms showing the problem.

Will forward the unattached scene along to developers and they can have a look into the structure of the skeleton. Meantime, do send along the workflow steps on how it was assembled as that will help add to the picture ;)

fixed problem which causes that root bone of limb does not have it's ID updated - which causes problem later in skinning when skinning algorithm cannot resolve bone nodes.

workaround: root bone needs to be re-build for example by adding new joint and removing it.

I have the same problem in Help, tech support and the suggestion box, that's the main reason I came to the forums.
