Screenshot time again :D

That's how Select rectangle works in TS 6.6 and Modeler when Selection/backside ticked. My starting point. Because i wanted to do the same in Workspace ...

No option for backside available. Just a "connected" tickbox. Which doesn't allow to select the above way. Sometimes it picks the faces from the front window, sometimes the faces from the middle window, sometimes the ones from the back window. Very random. Unticking the "connected" tickbox results in even less picked faces. So rectangle select does missing functionality compared to old core, and is a bit unstable. I worked often the above way to catch some faces. But that's not the bug. Just wanted to note this too :P

Now the bug :)

As you can see, you can see nothing. But you should. Some faces are catched with the rectangle. Or better said: it refuses to catch here. It should at least catch the one, small front face, shouldn't it? I have no clue how to reproduce it for others. It happens the same random as described above: sometimes a few faces here, sometimes a few faces there, and sometimes like this:

Another quirk at that corner: once you use select rectangle and click at the arrow button to leave it, you haven't really left it. Clicking at the arrow button and activating the Select faces button should turn the face under the mouse green then, shouldn't it? Well, that's bug 2 i guess. You can still rectangle select after that. But not clicking at a face as you want to :)

To leave rectangle select you have to switch to another tool in this row. Pick and move selected for example. This one leaves its mode when clicking at the arrow button.

I think that the screenshots should be enough to explain my problems. Should be mesh independand. Happens also at another mesh at my side :)

The 'Select Backside' equivalent is 'Select from all elements' - it's not tool specific so it has it's own icon on the Workspace toolbar - screenshot attached. Selecting that and then unchecking the 'connected' option from the Rectangle select panel will work more how you expect.

In your first and second Workspace screenshots, the rectangle selection will only pick complete faces when every edge can be seen - since you don't have 'Select from all elements' enabled, some of the verts of the face are hidden behind another face, so that face cannot be selected (selecting two sides of a triangle are not enough, you must be able to see all three vertexes and vertices for it to be selected). As mentioned above, enabling 'Select from all elements' is needed.

The 'connected' checkbox means that only faces of an object which are all connected to each other will be selected. When drawing a rectangle selection lots of faces may be highlighted, but when you release the mouse button tS works out which faces are actually joined to each other and leaves only those highlighted (it's done that way for speed, continually checking while dragging a rectangle would give a slow response). If the object is composed of sub objects then the individual sub objects are considered seperately.

There are still some issues, though as you've noted plus some others you haven't found.

I have a class right now so I am not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but the option for selecting back faces is in the stack for settings (with desktop settings)...something like 'select through'...sorry but I do not have 7.5 fired up...:o

EDIT: Crikey was it really 48 minutes I had that answer up before I posted it? Either way Bobbins beat me to it with a much better answer.

Thanks Bobbins for your explanation and your help. Now it selects them all as i want it to. Would never have thought about "Select from all elements" . So this issue is no bug but feature :)

That also explains why in my third screenshot nothing is visibly selected. I made a closer test now. And in this test it has selected a tri at the other end of the mesh. Miles away from the select rectangle. Seems that closest element isn't always really close :D

At least the last issue is a bug. You should be able to leave the select by rectangle mode by clicking at the arrow button. But you mentioned that this is a known bug (plus a few others :P ). So hopefully this one is gone with the patch :)

Nope, it isn't. Bug that you cannot leave rectangle select mode with clicking at the arrow button is still there in 7.51

Yeah - you gave them a whole 18 hours for them to identify the problem, fix it and test that there were no follow effects anywhere else in the program before finalising the code, building the 7.51 master install and testing that. What gives, huh?

Was worth a try :D

I thought the bug was a know one because of your answer. And so i expected it to be fixed. My fault :)
