Finally decided what i wanted to do and how and got some time last night to start...

Here is the basic shroom shape which I'm adding geometry to... and a snapshot of the control mesh...

*POINTS* See Kena...Mushrooms!

Anyway...good start, a cool touch would be putting smoked glass windows or make the holes glowing...that way you don't have to worry about the interior. Shelling NURBS is a pain! Unless you're going for the dress to impress approach...depends on how many of these shrooms you're planning on doing!

thanks Weevil, was thinking of adding blinds or shutters with shelves and flower pots and clothes lines with drying clothes near all the windows... then some wooden frames and steps by the door and a small fenced of veggy garden and maybe a dog kennel with a lady bug watchdog... a post box, and maybe a path leading off through the grass lawn...

...don't know if I will model the interior although it would be shrouded in shadow and won't be very visible from the outside... will see how it turns out...

... was also thinking of an open air kitchen imbedded in the roots of the mushroom where elfin-gnomes cook food, like a balery and place the yummies on baby mushroom tables of a different species of shrooms...

Also want to take my 3MP digital phone camera and get some close-up shots of our garden so that the plants and scene, tower over the shroom house to give the proper size perspective...

Lots of ideas... we'll see which ones make it through..

Glad I'm not the only one using mushrooms. They are endemic to the "fairy ring" after all. :D
Adn I think your shroom houses rock!

To keep it organic, make different sizes. should give lots of variety for you.

Alright, decided against the window in the middle, experimented with a door there leading to a veranda but it ruined the NURBS geometry and made the whole thing look like a face so I scrapped it... [image 1]

Sweeped the first window and saved the path, then used macro sweep to re-use it for other windows and doors. Thanks to the free Organics Course video ;) Saved me a lot of time...

Instead of the roof door, changed the stem window to a veranda doorway and added some wooden winding steps from the main door to the floor [image 2]

And added some flower shelfs and pots by the roof window [image 3]

very nice, but there is no rule that states that a house cannot look like a face! you could put flower pots above the window as eyebrows!

keep that one in your library, 'cause you will be able to use it later on for something else.

hehehe... yeah, true... but already did the face thing with the Sand Puppy vehicle ;) want the more natural feel... did save it though, saved all the control meshes from the start as a progressive series while experimenting so I can always go back to some else... ;)

will work on it some more...

Hehehehe, the architecture in the bottle was a very nice idea Weevil, I like it :) Very original and different, which is good ;)

Wasn't too happy with the steps so I thought I'd replace them baby shrooms instead. Then I also added some shade roofs and basic doors. didn't have much time for a lot of changes though.

Very nice work there. I like the shader from post #7, and the shroom walkway also :)

I have to agree about the texture on the mushroom in post 7... maybe a bit lighter, but very good.

tnx guys... that was jsut a quick test, but focusing on the model for now and its easier with the bland pale green to model the nurbs... ;)

was thinking of going for a more pale while or beige/dirty yellow and some spots for the final texture... will see about that...

not sure if i should change the little shadow roofs by the doors with leafs...

bit stuck on what to add next, but i think i might add a little garden and other props like hanging sign, post box, washing line with clothes...

didn't have much time again, logging some extra hours for work to take time off for a long weekend away...

did manage to experiment with a lathed leaf form to replace the little door roof... will use these for the garden and surrounding foliage as well...

ps. the leaf texture is a plain color with a leaf bumpmap scaled to its proportion...

for a more realistic leaf, use the technique I used for my leaves. Check out my MMC thread. I think it will look better for your WIP.

Last day of the competition !!! :)

Here are some additions I did... will be doing some final render tests with different lighting to see what looks best...

Closing time in about 22 hours from now...

Did a sloped terrain with deform tools and some winding trees with Nurb sweeps and some ball-branches...

Added a root-creeper plant snaking up the mushroom, there is also one bough that goes THROUGH the mushrooms lower window... and some pot plants and flowers

Then I made a small garden with stone walkway, a few crop plants in a fenced of area and flowers and bushes as well as a washing line with some clothes on...

here is some close up test renders of the new areas, with an 'afternoon' type lighting setup...

next I'm doing various tests with dawn, dusk, noon and even full moon and overcast light setup renders to see what looks best...

Alright, here are some final renders...

I think I liek the midafternoon and the overcastmoon ones most... will choose one of them for the final entry...
