This is under the PhotoRender tab then choosing default and picking Background from the list.

I can put a background image for use in vray. However change it to graduated and you get a nice solid color background. I can see nothing that would help me to choose a graduation between two colors. I changed it to clouds to see what would happen... You guessed it a solid color again. lol.

I have marked in red where on the interface you can choose between color and graduated and image etc but that only image and color do anything.

So why are the other listings shown here?

Now click the Background title and go back to Default.

Why can I choose image etc on this panel yet not actually choose an image to input here? (It does nothing at all in fact) Why is there what seems to be a button for Background that does nothing when you press it or right click it or any number of maybe combinations that other tools seem to need to actually work. Same with the Foreground button and tone mapping etc all on that same panel. What do they do except take up space? I have marked these 'buttons' in green on my image. These do nothing but confuse and frustrate. Why is there an option to choose between render engines on these panels when under workspace I can only render using Vray? Yet another potential confusion point.

I know I can go back to modeler and set most of these there but any new users would be going round in circles and it does not look professional. They should and need to be context sensitive.

I am starting to get annoyed now. Not with Truespace as such but instead I am getting annoyed knowing what this kind of sillyness in an application does to its image in the wider world.

Its a very capable application but these basic interface errors should have been spotted ages ago.

If they are not errors then they need redesigned as they are not intuative and in fact cause nothing but trauma for a person trying to use it.

Not good when you are trying to convince new users that Truespace is the way to go to fill their 3d needs.

If you want I know of two people who can offer their services to help beta test future revisions. Myself and Jay. Both of us have been involved in beta testing for a living as well as informal beta testing for other applications out there including my own archaeology software.

I'm not talking money here or anything. I am talking as a concerned Truespace user and I know that we could help to sort out these silly issues and workflow problems.

If you want to know more about who we have beta tested for and what we have beta tested then just ask.

I feel that my more recent posts have been rather negative and I hate that I am pointing out yet again more issues or what end up as workflow problems but I feel the points need to be made regarding this application.

The above problems are only part of the whole issue. It needs work.

Cheers

clouds and graduated are lightworks background effects..they are found via the original icon for each effect on model side..yes they shouldn't showup when in v-ray.tsr
instead of having a background tab which seems redundant, [why show them in default then?] a v-ray, lightworks, and virtualight tab so you can't choose something that doesn't work on the renderer you are using would be better..;)

hehe, yes, the panels/tabs aren't very advanced if they can't become greyed out.

Stop reading if your sensitive as my grump head is on today. (By the way I am not as grumpy as the following may appear to show. Its friendly grumpyness if there is such a thing.)

Am I right to assume that the developers don't see the above as confusing to potential and current customers? I think this due to the many views of this post yet a minimal set of replies.

Of course you can continue to ignore it and my other post in the Trueplay forum and that tells me I really need to stop spreading the word and convincing others to move onto the Truespace platform as I look like a fool when I have said how good the developers seem to be and fast at replying to queries or problems that come up. This is in addition to trying to explain to others (while hiding my growls of frustration) that its not really a big deal when I spot problems like the above with them looking over my shoulders.

Cheers
