I work in 4 view mode. One of the things that was irritating me was having the toolbar duplicated for each window. Unnecessarily confusing as each could display a different icon focus or activity. I kill three of them, customise the fourth slightly so I now only have the one and everything is working fine (see first pic). Worked all night like that, much less confusing on the visual feedback. Saved layout. Went to bed. Today, opened tS and all four toolbars are back, though they are in my customised state. Click the layout tab and, yep, the toolbar is saved for each window (see second pic). So everytimne I open tS I have to close three needless duplicated toolbars as there is absolutely no reason to have them.

I agree. I adopted Mr. bone's layout for character animation, and found the same problem when I opened TS again.

His layout is here: http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=3060

Kind of annoying, but not that big of a deal. They bothered me mostly because I had to close them to see what was behind them on my tiny 17 inch monitor. Man how I'd love to have a 20" like at work! But I digress.

Kind of annoying? Understatement! Especially when the lock toolbars open function has been removed to reduce screen clutter and then the main toolbar gets duplicated four times for no reason. Swapped useful clutter for pointless clutter.

That's true. I do wish I could lock the toolbars open again.

I agree..multiple toolbars with the same tools on them is nonsense...:(

having toolbars that don't expand seems a step backwards too..we voted in a poll and want them and only got them in model [which will be phased out ]
the new way just hides the clutter in the toolbars, making them harder to use, so it creates the illusion there are less tools only

We need ONE button to please everyone. That one button when clicked can turn on mouse over for a window or expand icons when mouse is over, when clicked again we get TS as it is now. Both parties would be happy. There are times both ways would work for me.

In the Stack, go to the Settings tab.

Find the Desktop Panel and make sure it is in Default aspect.

Uncheck the "Display All Toolbars" setting (it is ticked by default).

Not tried this with customised toolbars - I'll leave that for the people that customise.

Nope, that makes absolutely no difference. Still get all four toolbars on restarting or reloading layout from tab

that doesn't work Bobbins..duplicate toolbars persist even with that option unchecked :(
I made a button to close custom toolbars when on model side because there is no other way to do it..

Try this if you can. Don't reset to default context if you're going to complain about losing stuff you haven't saved out.

- Reset to default context.

- Select 4-View layout.

- Go to Settings view in Stack and uncheck "Display All Toolbars" in Desktop panel.

- Click in one of the four Space 3D windows.

Thanks for taking the time to input, Bobbins. That almost works - it does, indeed give you just one toolbar, but it jumps about to each window you make active. If you shift it out of it's bottom left default snap, it follows suit on the others and sometimes doesn't appear at all!

To have the toolbar jumping about and not staying where you put it is really annoying and distracting and no better than having four of them to start with.

Well, it's entirely correct that the toolbar appears in the active window, so yes, it has to 'jump about' in order to do that.

It may be the way it's supposed to do it but it's a silly way. Only one toolbar is needed, there is no logical reason that I can see for having it duplicated four times. It's never been that way in any other version, or indeed any other software package I'm aware of. It wouldn't be quite as bad if they all switch the selected icon to let you see what tool is actually selected, though it would still be unnecessary clutter. Why can we not have just one, that stays where it's put?

I'm actually working mainly in WS now as it now has a really decent set of tools but these little issues are a real hinderance. What's it going to be like when even more tools are ported over? You won't be able to see your mesh as the screen will be swamped with four sets of duplicate icons.

Thanks for your help in trying to resolve it though, Bobbins. I do appreciate your time and effort but it looks like it's an issue for the powers that be to fix sensibly

You have to consider that the preset 4-view is simply a special neat layout with docked 3D views. If you created a floating layout with 4 3D views you would not want the toolbar to stay where you put it. You'd be posting why the powers that be made a silly decision to make it disappear behind the active window, appear on a window that wasn't active and so on, but that's what you want?

I've already shown that there is no need for the four duplicate toolbars. You can have only one if you want - and it should be visible which is how tS handles things until you tell it to do otherwise.

Yes, it is - a sensible 4 view working space. The current way of getting a single toolbar in traditional 4 view layout is like trying to model while on a bouncy castle.

The problem runs deeper than that, 9 times / 10 if you close the tool bar, go into model, and return to workspace...there it is mocking you and your bad haircut.
