I think it'd be a cool idea to get all the V-Ray 1.0 bugs listed in one place so proTeam members and Betatesters working with the V-Ray beta can test specifically for these bugs and pass on to the developers whether or not they've been fixed. I know Prodigy's got a pretty good list he was working on and can probably get us started, but if anyone else has found any please share them here.

Also if we can get pre-made scenes that demonstrate the bugs that'd be even cooler because the testers can just fire them up and check for the problem right away.

I have built a simple bug tracking website used for this sort of thing - I edit video and we did this exact thing to help the developers there keep track of bugs - the forums were a bit all over the place for the company to colate much information. - this one makes a list available to the developers behind the scenes...

I have setup Vray in it and can also add TS 7.11/7.5 if needed - you just need to join/login to post a bug.. If interested its at www.buglistcentral.com, it is also at www.wishlistcentral.com, for users to add wishes..

There is no commercial aspect to this site - I just did it because I think it will help, and because I have the spare resources..

V-Ray for TrueSpace 1.0 and TrueSpace 7.11

I encountered a "squarebug", dont know if entomologists have this one in their record... but,

a round spotlight produces square refractive caustics:

Set up a scene where a spotlight shines a narrow beam of light through a thin object (i.e. a box sized 1,1,0.1 onto a floor or wall object *with refractive caustics, not transparent shadows*, you will see, in the rendered image *with caustics enabled, might I add :)* not a circle of refractive caustics, as expected, but square refractive caustics from the spotlight.

When I reported it I was told it is fixed in 7.5 ;)

Bumpmaps with HDRI do not work.
Several problems with transparent surfaces, caustics and a facet effekt.

EDIT:
Leif do you mean something like this?

Thats quite some caustix there Misc.

51505149

I believe these two images explain what species I found.

You see the round small specular highlight on top of the disc,

and the blue square which is the caustics refracted through the disc onto the plane beneath it.

Hope this makes it clear :)

The Goniometric lights (IES DATA) are not supported on vray 1.0

And Misc, it doesn't work with GI too.. to get the bump mapping you must add another light.. here is an example..

Wow cool :)

Thanks guys!!

Here's mine to contribute, it's not as cool as Prodigy's projector light distortion bug, but I think it's up there. :D

Transparent Shadows artifacts w/ Fresnel and Bump map:

5176

Rendered in 7.11 w/ V-Ray 1.0

The artifact color is always the negative of what it's supposed to be. So a blue texture produces orange artifacts and a red texture produces green ones, etc.

Here's the .scn file:

5178

Scene includes a hollowed out torrus with a bump map and fresnel shader applied, some lights, a shadow casting spotlight, and a sub-D cube as the ground plane.

Looks like bump maps in general seem to be causing problems for V-Ray in TS... interesting.

Leif, is that a projector light or a spot light in your bug scene?

Edit: Whupps missed the part where you said it's been fixed. :)

I get the same result in 7.5/1.5 as 7.1/1.0

Spotlight narrow enough that its beam shines through,

here down through the big round tabletop onto a little floor below.

The small greyish blue is specular,

The more intense square lighter blue, is caustics effect. How come this is not circular, as the spotlight indeed is circular???

Scene saved from tS7.5 model side.

I wonder if using a projector light with a circular light projection would produce the same results as well...

Tried it.

Answer: yes.

With default caligari, and with round mask (see screenshot below)

Here's the results.

Caligari mask

Round mask

5920

Screenshot with round mask in projector light

(Note, this is not from full DX9c hardware card, but VRay renderings are not (hopefully) affected by that. That DX9c card is coming in soon :) )

I see bumps Bugigy...unless you are referring to the small sphere in the shadow of the larger one. This was once explained to me as expected behaviour as bumps in Vray require a directional light source to generate to effect of bump. As GI is just that; a global light source, it does not have the same effect but you could put an omni light in there or make material more shiny to accentuate the effect.

Not sure of your question there but the name Bugigy is a bit of fun playing on both your user name and the rate at which you 'find' bugs.

No harm intended but if it offends then I will stop...:)

Looks like the transparent shadows + fresnel + bump bug is fixed but I found a possible Caustics transmissive/refraction bug:

5942
The torus is a hollowed out object and from other renders it looks like the refractive caustics are projecting on the inside surfaces instead of passing through like they do in the sphere primitive.

Reflective caustics appears to be working fine except seems to only reflect as white....
