I found a interesting problem over the SoftShadow setting..

3939

First load my scene... its a simple scene, with 2 Rectangles and 1 projector light..

The projector is infront a cube and cannot proyect any light or shadowrom to the wall..

But if on the Vray settings press over the softshadow setting and insert a value like 5, the light can pass throw the cube...

I dont know if its a ts bug a Vray problem, or it have a solution...

Btw, its not a local problem with projector light... happend with any light..
I think know why...

I don't think it's an actual bug per se.

The reason shadows become soft is because the light is no longer acting as a point source. That means the light radiates from a volume which has dimensions.

My interpretation of the "size" parameter is just how wide the soft light is. A really big value means that some of the light source is actually extending beyond the edges of your near cube so maybe it's not so much passing through it as around it. :)

Interesting to do an animation of the small cube approaching the light from the background plane. Might give a gradual impression of how the size interacts.

Intensity of the projected light is probably based on light leaking around the cube edges whereas color of the projected light is likely based only on angle from the light's direction and center point. In reality, a soft projector light doesn't have much physical meaning without a focal plane reference to work from.

Thats exactly what i think...

i put the source light inside the cube with the same result.. the problem is you cannot use that settings inside a room because the lights pass throw the walls... Thats the problem..

You must be trying for a very subtle lighting effect! :)

Perhaps an array of smaller sized soft lights would be one answer. May be a tad more difficult if they're all projector lights because their images would probably need to converge at some point.
