I've got a tad of a problem with my rendering. This is with Truespace 6

I've got a "space fighter" and for the engine golw I've set up a local light for Lens flare. It's glued to the model.

When I render a scene with the model animated in it, (I've also animated the light while it's still glued) the rendering "freezes" saying at the bottom the time left to render the frame is 00:01 seconds. whenever the light is visble on screen. The program only then carries on to add the lens flare effect (which looks wierd) when I hit escape, which is useless as the rendering then stops.

This only happens when the model is animated

Any ideas?

Lens flare is a post processed filter. Foreground geometry can interfere with this. Chapter 23: Rendering, in your manual. hth

my tip for engine glow is to use spotlights. If you use local lights, you end up illuminating the entire scene. Position your spotlight in the engine cowling, and rotate till its pointing directly at you, or the camera I suppose. Grab the ring round the edge of the white centre, and drag to reduce the angular spread of the light. You can then use any intensity of light, without causing stray illumination, and you get a goot flare. Do not have any falloff in you light.

Example below.

It does sound like the calculations were taking too long for some reason - hitting ESC would break the calculation and make it render as much as it had worked out at the time. You don't have any Depth of Field turned on too? That one can take a while to calculate (lens flare should be pretty quick really).

Motion Blur too could do the same thing (though you should see each "almost identical" frame being rendered so it wouldn't look paused entirely - however it may be rendering all those motion blur frames before combining them with lens flare, and if they are very similar, you may not see the change between each motion blur frame).

Let us know if any of the ideas here help!

Thanks!

Tom

The one above helped IMMENSLY.

The calculations stopped just before the lens flare stage, the whole frame was rendered and it was still classed as responding.

Doesn't really matter now. This thread can be closed
