Hi to all...

well i found a bug on projector light.. Its about the texture proyected from the projector..

I found this bug when i try to simulate a spotlight with a circled texture.. Sorry my english .. lol...

Lets start..

Its esasy to recreate the problem
Create any texture with a perfect circle.. example 500x500px and creat a perfect circle inside.. you can use my texture too... 8)=

2504

Ok.. eliminate any objects or lights..
Now creat a box or a plane on the ground of the scene.. Now put a proyector light lookin the box.. 90° plz...

Ok now try to render with lightworks.. the texture looks good.. Now render with Vray.. The circle was deformed.. In other textures happend the same.. Like Caligari logo.. but because caligari texture doesnt have any point of reference the picture looks good... but on a perfect circle you can see the circle its deformed by the light.. In the picture you can see both renders.. and on the bottom you can see one over the other 50% transparence.. you can see the texture have the same height and weight.. but some parts of the picture is deformed on Vray.. Try this at home...

Regrads...

BTW.. Its a very good idea.. make projector light with animation.. because for a work i must do a home theatre and i cant do with the projector.. 8(

Regrads..

Hi Prodigy,

Wow feel like I viewing one of those optical illusion things because of the complimentary colors, but I was able to duplicate your results:

I added an extra square because I still can't figure out how the circle is being deformed without deforming the squares....

I tried it with blue instead of green incase it was a color specific thing, but same results.

I also noticed that the same deformation appears in the link editor if you drag your test bitmap to the link editor:

Some pretty wierd stuff going on here, almost like a filter is being applied... good news is that I think I found a work around for you.

The distortion seems to mainly occur as you get to the edges so double your texture canvas, fill extra space with black so it doesn't project. Then you should be ok.

Here's a visual example -- I've scaled it down for the forums but you should get the idea:

Wierd its the best word to explain this...

If any think its a collor o jpg error.. its not.. creat any texture with a circle.. and you gonna get the same effect..

In lightworks doesnt do...

And yes.. its like a lens effect.. only modify the corners.. but its rare.. realy rare..

Continue working

Seeya! :)

Hi all,

Sorry for the delay in getting the info back to you. This is definitely confirmed as a bug, and is on the list to be fixed in tS7.5.

HTH!

Did my own test. It appears the distortion is also dependent on projector angle. Here's 3 projector lights using an angle of 1.5, 1, and 2 repsectively (params as entered into the LE).

Looks as if the pixels away from center are stretched exponentially but independently for both the horizontal and vertical direction. The fact that the yellow lines get fatter as you move out shows the degree of "progressive distortion" (no pun intended) present in the image. Interesting that the distortion is not present on the perfectly horizontal and perfectly vertical yellow lines through center.

Vray must be trying to interpret a planar projection map as part of a spherical projection map or vice versa. Been a while since I saw this thread. Had forgotten about it completely myself.

Thanks for keeping tabs on this one.
I reported it on our beta forums for review.

I had another thought. The DOF lens uses a polygonal estimation of the curved surface of the lens. If the projector uses the same type of thing could the number of polygons in the approximation just be set too low?
