Abreviations: CD = Ctrl+drag, CSD = Ctrl+Shift+drag
tS7.1, 1024x768, Athlon XP3200+, 2GB RAM, Radeon 9600, with 2 monitors

Delete Default.ctx [had a seriously borked layout that crashed tS if I switched to it then to any other layout]
Start tS7
Switch to original, unchanged version of full layout
Double click title bar, then drag tS7 to secondary monitor & double click title bar again
CD out bar with Object tool on from side of window
CD out Animation bar from side of window
Bar with Shutdown, Macro, etc is docked to left of main window at the bottom, even though I haven't switched to the player tab since switching to this layout.
Switch to Player tab
Switch back to Model tab
Shutdown bar is now gone from model window, though the other 2 bars are where I left them
Switch back to Player again & Shutdown bar is now docked to bottom left side of the main window
Restore from default minimised state the Navigation bar
Restore from default minimised state the Render Options bar
CD Render options bar to dock it with right side of window
CD Navigation bar to dock it with right side of window, below Render bar
Rotate Animation bar 90http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/degrees.png, place it just below player & model tabs, & minimise
CD bar with Lathe, SubDiv, etc to dock with bottom of screen, but so that it doesn't overlap the bottom of the left docked bar column
Switch to Player, open Button library, & switch back to Model
Create new Library for old unused buttons
CD old Scene, Objects, Project, & Configuration library buttons into library just created
CD above listed buttons into Recycle bin [from toolbar, not from library]
CD bar with Object tool to dock with bottom of window
CD View Aspects bar to dock with bottom of window
CSD Image Browser button into main area of window to make new toolbar
CD [new] Layouts library, Scene, Objects, & Projects buttons from libraries button library to new toolbar
CD Image Browser button from new toolbar to Recycle Bin
CD New toolbar to dock to left of main window
Open Layouts library, Insert scene, label as Full (modified)
Drag new layout to 2nd position in order of layouts in library.
Click button for just-created layout
Switch to player - Shutdown bar is now missing.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Slightly different this time. This time around I didn't need to delete the default.ctx, as I did a complete uninstall & reinstall before trying the below steps.
[added steps 18 & 19 incase it'd make any difference - it didn't :(]

Switch to Player
CD Shutdown bar out from docked positon at lower left of window
Rotate Shutdown bar 90http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/degrees.png, place against top border of player window, but not docked
Open Button library, & switch back to Model
Create new Library for old unused buttons
CD old Scene, Objects, Project, & Configuration library buttons into library just created
CD above listed buttons into Recycle bin
CD bar with Object tool to dock with bottom of window

CD [new] Layouts library, Scene, Objects, Projects, & Button library buttons from libraries button library to new toolbar
CD Image Browser button from new toolbar to Recycle Bin
CD New toolbar to dock to left of main window
Open Layouts library, Insert scene, label as Full (modified)
Drag new layout to 2nd position in order of layouts in library.
Click button for just-created layout
Switch to player - Shutdown bar is now missing.

modified full layout with shutdown bar missing (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/modified_full_shutdown_bar_missing.RsLyt)
RAR of default.ctx, Rosetta.log, & PlayerD3D.log (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/Files_15_06_2006.rar)
Not sure if the contents of the .RAR will be of any use, but thought it'd save a wait incase anyone asked for them.

Alien..when you save your layout, do you save both sides as you create it? model and player..I do it by using "replace layout" .first I get model layed out, insert layout...get player setup, then replace layout..double check model then replace layout, so it opens to model...:D .

Tried that, though as it's the full layout, I still had to switch to Player to open the Layouts library before I could save it. At that point it was still there. I switched back to modeler moved the toolbars around, Replace, switch to Player & guess what? :(

I'm gonna try it again, after deleting my default.ctx, as between my last post & yours I added a button from the button library to 1 of the toolbars, & even though I had loaded the unmodified Full that button was still on the toolbar I'd put it on!

---

Ok, this time I tried something different. Didn't modify any toolbars, just dragged the 1s in Model to where I wanted them, then switched to Player, dragged the Shutdown bar to where I wanted it in Player, Inserted the layout, then switched to Model.

Now the Shutdown bar's sitting in Model, & doesn't have an X on it for me to close it with. So I switch back to Player, dock the bar back where it was originally, & now it doesn't show in Model [as it's not meant to anyway, AFAIK].

Caligari: I'm still a loyal tS user [or would be if I could actually get it set up properly & use it!], but I have to be honest here - it's really looking like you've managed to get something severely borked with 7.1, as I never had this prob with 7.0 or 7.01 [hell, not even beta!].

"Furthermore, with 7.5 we will complete those elements of the new UI which were not quite finished for TS7 such as configurable toolbars and libraries. This is the #1 priority for us, we take ease of use seriously and you will find 7.5 UI is easier and more polished."

Even Roman said it wasn't finished! They put the product out there because they probably had to but the UI in my opinion was not done right. Why does the user have to jump thru hoops to get a UI the way he/she wants? I firmly believe the UI enhancements should be a patch for 7.0-7.1 users.

It's kind of wierd actually....Truespace's strength has historicaly been it's interface yet now.........

there was a brief mention of a 7.2 by Roman ..no more mention of it though ....regardless they should fix the UI in a free patch..

one thing that drives me nuts is when all my icons/ toolbars vanish at once.. go to click on one and they are gone. then they reappear...happens every time I use ts7.1 ..happened in 7.0 too..:(

the interface is poorly planned..

Bit harsh Stan, it is not poorly planned IMO but rather a 'bridge (excuse pun) between old 6 and new 7.

Also, the icons disappearing is not common to everyone so cannot be put down as a design feature...;) More likely a windows config or driver problem-never happened to me and I have been through quite a few 'rough' versions too.

I am confident that many of these will be addressed in a patch as there were always subtle changes being made to the UI during beta cycle-why should it stop now...;)

That's the thing though - I never had these probs in beta, 7.0, or 7.01.

Since my last post, I tried disabling my anti-virus prog [Kaspersky 6.0], uninstalling tS, rebooting, running 3 different registry cleaners, then reinstalling tS with KAV still disabled, & now not only do I lose the Shutdown bar in Player, but the library bar too, so no hope of manually recreating the missing bar, or getting into the LE to see if I could find what was wrong. :(

I tried making a copy of the toolbars button, switching to Player & tried each of the options but... nothing. The only toolbar left in the Player is the 1 with the material pick button on it.

The only potential clue I have to what might be happening is that when I go to restore to normal size the minimised render bar [when trying to modify an unmodified copy of Full], over on the right hand side of the window, it only appears 1/2 inside the [maximised] tS window [which is on the secondary/right-hand screen].

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/half-hidden-toolbar.jpg

This makes me think there might be a bug [or missing piece of code that should be there] that allows toolbars, UI objects, etc to have screen co-ordinates outside the actual desktop dimensions.

<a few hours later>

Ok, since I wrote the above bit [I usually write my posts in EditPad Lite, then just paste them into Firefox] I have since uninstalled all ATI drivers, as well as ATI Hydravision [for anyone who doesn't know, it's a util that's supposed to compensate for progs that don't remember which screen they were last opened on]. I then reinstalled the drivers [but not Hydravision, incase it was somehow related to this problem, even though I already had tS7 on its exclusion list].

Now, the last attempt I made at creating a modified Full is a bit more useable - the library bar is back, as is the Shutdown bar, though it's in Model too, & has no X to close it, but I can live with that. I'm going to try making a copy of this layout & see if I can further modify it without problems.

Strangely enough, when I tried to start again from an unmodified Full, I get same probs as described above [as soon as I use Insert layout, then switch to Player, the Shutdown & Library bars disappear], though that other 1 still has them.

BTW, with the layout that sort-of-works, when tS initially switches to it, although it's supposed to be maximised, what actually happens is this:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/alien42/images_for_caligari_forum/supposed-to-be-maximised.jpg

I can maximise it properly by double-clicking the title bar, then doing it again, not that I should have to. :(

Oh, incase anyone's wondering - the reason the thumbnail for the last layout in the library doesn't have tS in it, is because that's what was on my primary screen at the time of Inserting that scene into the library. Thumbnails for scenes & objects work the way they're supposed to - you get a thumbnail of whichever screen your mouse was on when you saved/inserted/replaced the scene or object, but with the layout library it's always the primary screen, regardless of whether there's anything to do with tS on it. :(

Just a thought, but I wonder if you were to switch off DualMonitor support and exit trueSpace before making a customized layout would help.

I don't think that would help. AFAIK, that setting is just a 6.6/Model thing that affects the ability to put smaller Model views on the other monitor.
