More detail is needed here please - could you show us a screengrab, and also let us know why it is you think single sided is not working. Then we can look into the potential problem :)

Bear in mind that single and double sided mean different things for V-Ray than they do for Lightworks.

Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

i wrote: only single-sided rendering works with vray1/ts7.1

here are two examples pics, one rendered with the single-sided, the other with double sided ! it is the same (as rendered in vray0.9 with single sided !!).

when activating double-sided rendering, there should be something more effect to see, shouldn't it ??

You'll only see a difference if you have problems with normals. The quote from the manual is:

"

When single sided rendering is selected (the box is checked) then normals are not corrected to face the illumination direction, which results in slightly faster rendering but may reveal artifacts caused by back-facing surfaces. Double-sided rendering (when the box is unchecked) adjusts the normals to be always facing the illumination direction, which removes the chance of artefacts in the render, but at the expense of a slightly longer render time.

"

In Lightworks, single and double sided means that a ray is not refracted when hitting the "inside" of a face (pointing in the opposite direction from the normal), so the difference there is that double sided gives real world refraction (on entry and exit from a volume).

V-Ray however does this each time, whether single or double sided is checked, so you get correct refraction. If there are any anomalies in the normals, then single sided may give artefacts - but if not, then even single sided will work well (and give the same result as double sided would in Lightworks).

I believe in 0.9 the Single and Double sided was not functioning correctly for V-Ray, and it did indeed result in some differences as to whether it was checked or not.

However, in 1.0, unless you have some problems with normals, both should give the same results - should you encounter artefacts, then doubel sided can be tried. Looks like your scene has no artefacts, so either option gives the correct result :)

Hi Tom,

thank you for you action, and it looks like, that this was a big bug in vray0.9.....here is a scene rendered with vray0.9 and doublesided turned on, and the same scene with vray1 (which makes no difference if double or singlesided).....

do you have any idea how i can render scenes like vray0.9/doublesided using vray1 ???

So many things have changed between 0.9 and 1.0 it would be hard to say. The factors I would look into - try the Fresnel shader, with Internal Reflections enabled. Turn up reflection in the shader. Ensure ray depth is set high enough to allow reflections to bounce repeatedly.

Those might give the effect seen in the top image, which looks to have lots of reflections of reflections inside the cube.
