 I open my scene put a plane in this scene. This plane needs to be textured with a particular texture.
The texture that I want to put on is a simple image made in photoshop about 10mb big.
Once I have chosen the file i need and have dragged it on to the colour palette. The colour on the colour palette just turns black, once I try to paint any object TS just crashes and then eventually the Error report comes up .
Any Ideas or anyone having similar problems:confused:  |

I've run into is if an image is long and norrow eg. 2" x 50" that has caused
problems.

No this file is Jpeg and its file size is 1024X768 so a normal size really.;)
This also happens with any other files or less they are very small (not much use then:rolleyes: ) |

Something doesn't add up. If the file is 1024x768 then it should be 2.25 Meg.
Make sure it's RGB and not CMYK. Also make sure color mode is 8 bit, not 16 bit. |

So your image is 1024x768, JPG and is 10Mb in size? There is something very, very seriously wrong with either your image file or what you've told us.
Texture files should be good for up to 4096x4096 pixels in tS regardless of file type. |

How the hell did you manage to create a 1024x768 jpg that's 10MB? I just tried creating 1 in PSP9, & the filesize was only about 1.4MB, with compression at minimum [1%], & even in memory it only uses 3.something MB. |

Stoker, it sounds like either it's something you're doing wrong/weird/different in Photoshop, or maybe it's something wrong with Photoshop itself. I can't really offer much advice on that as I don't have/use Photoshop. |

Stoker,
What settings are you saving the JPG with? In PS, use Baseline "Standard" and image quality around 8. A 1024x768 image file should come out around 110kb with those settings and will go into tS just fine - I know because I do this all the time.
In PS, the image will show as around 2.25Mb as this is the actual decompressed size for a 1024x768 RGB image - an Alpha channel will push that up to 3Mb. Of course, if you have several layers in PS then the size will go up accordingly, but by the time the image is flattened and saved to JPG it should still be about a 110Kb file. |

Make sure the selected file type is JPEG and not something else. Maybe it is a ps file, with a jpg extension. As bobbins said, even a jpg with maximum quality and your resolution isn't bigger than ~290kb |

Try to open the file with your internet browser and see if it works. |

I just tried it on his laptop...need to investigate further BUT he is right about the black in the ME. He has a series of jpeg's some of which work and some don't. Can't find a pattern yet but he is not 'completely' mad.....
He refuses to update his Nvidia drivers so hold back on the sympathy...;) |

Why not share the picture in question so that others can have a look at ? When it works for them you may have a problem at your settings/system. When not, well , having the trouble file is a good starting point to track things down ... |

My first thought is still the format of the file - the fact that there was a 1024x768 JPG at 10Mb shows something is wrong somewhere in the file format, and the same error could still be present in the other JPGs and causing the problem.
I dont think this is strictly size of the image as such, I think the size indicates something amiss in the formatting.
The solution would be to post the offending image files and let people download and take a look, see if they can figure out what is strange about them.

Nope, I just converted a 1600x1200 jpg to bmp & that only came to 5.49MB.
<edit>
I'm inclined to blame Photoshop, I'm not that fond of Adobe products in general.

It could be a photoshop psd with layers. Each layer eats up memory like a full image on it's own (more or less). As I said, try to open it with another software to see if it really is a jpg or not. The file size just can't be right.
Another idea: does your explorer show file extensions for known file formats? Can you see the image in your image browser? |

Now there's a feature MS should never have added! I know it can be disabled [so that all extensions are shown], & I always do turn it off when I reinstall, but I shouldn't have to. |

Zip it. Ask somebody to host it. Send it via Email to the person in question. Nearly every zipsoftware is also able to split the zipfile into several small pieces. You should be able to go around your filesizelimit by that.
One sidenode: zip it, have a look at the filesize. When it shrinks down dramatically then there is definitely something wrong with the picture. Jpeg cannot be compressed this much by zipping. The zipped file is as nearly as big as the unzipped jpg... |

Load your image into Photoshop and save it as a PSD with compapility mode
unchecked. Zip compress the PSD file and post it as attachment if it's under 2 MB.
Edit sorry Tiles you posted before I saw it. |

Stoker, try this: found that 10MB file icon (use windows explorer). Right click on that 10MB icon. Then select properties. It'll open that 10MB file properties with general as default tab. change tab to summary, then click "Advanced>>" button. If that 10MB file is really a jpg file it'll show that jpg file info like width, height, Bit-dipth,etc. If yes capture it and the post here. If no ,forget it because it's non standart jpg file. |
