here is layered material for v-ray in 3dsmax, so when do we get them?

MATERIALS

VRayBlendMtl material allows the layering of several different V-Ray materials. This is a lot faster than the regular 3dsmax Blend/Shellac/Composite materials and generates correct V-Ray render elements. The different layers of a VRayBlendMtl can be extracted to different render elements through the VRayMtlSelect render element.
VRay2SidedMtl material allows the simulation of thin translucent surfaces like paper, cloth etc.
VRayFastSSS material for simulating the sub-surface scattering in materials like human skin. Works best if layered with a regular diffuse/specular VRayMtl through VRayMtlBlend.
VRayOverrideMtl material allows the user to specify different materials for reflections/refractions/GI.

trueSpace Vray HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH 3DS MAX VRay!

It doesn't have to, to support the same features, though to say the two have nothing in common is an extremely silly statement to make - of COURSE they do, they're the same rendering engine! ChaosGroup wouldn't rewrite it for trueSpace, and they surely wouldn't remove a feature as useful as layered material support.

Is Lightworks for tS different than Lightworks in other applications? No, of course not, the only difference is in implementation - same as VRay.

OK agree the "nothing" statement was a bit dull but it's the best to make clear that there are less things where you can compare both.

Caligari wanted only a few of the Vray features and so sell it for a lower price. Of course it's the same render engine but even there you can't really compare it with Vray (the original) like speed for example.

As I heard that Caligari wanted to implemented Vray I thought we get a 100% Vray. I'm not a fan of those 20% stuff where most of the things don't work or aren't available. One of the reasons why I switched and think that Standalone Renderengines have her selling point. Nothing to say against implementations but then they should be done right.

Vray for Rhino or Sketchup has deserved the name "Vray". Yep the price is the same like the original but it's worth and additionally after implementing all features there is no problem to reduce it to a basic version which costs less.

again just my opinion.

Actually it is a different render engine - VRay for Max and the VRay SDK (which is what VRay for tS is using) are not the same thing, though they share a name and have some similarities.

I do agree that it isnt fair that we cant have features that most other packages have with their render engines

3dsmax had the same problems like ts vray has right now. When they made layers from what I heard it was kinda like a hack. They did get it to work but layering materials from what I've read were slow because choas group didn't set vray up for it correctly..

The new Chaos Group SDK 1.5 which hopefully will be released at some point for caligari to get a hold of has a "layer shader" which its layering component acts like a shader(which I find that weird) but it works faster than using max's layer system.

So basically Caligari can get it supported before or whenever the new SDK. Hoping it's in the next release. Technically ts vray can be just like 3dsmax vray over time but some of us have to remember that Caligari doesn't have many programmers to implement all this stuff but that's depending on their agreement with chaos group which I have to put Caligari on the spot and ask what does "almost like vray advanced" mean?
